Thomas STEDMAN (c1540-?)

Thomas Stedman may have married sometime before 1569 and possibly in or near Bolney, Sussex.  A Thomas Stedman was buried on 31 December 1586 in Bolney.

A Joan Stedman, widow was buried on 24 May 1597 in Cowfold, Sussex.  (The parishes of Cowfold and Bolney adjoin one another.)


Thomas Stedman may have had the following children:

  1. Edward Stedman was baptised on 16 October 1569 in Bolney and buried there on 29 October 1569.

  2. John Stedman was baptised on 28 January 1570/1 in Bolney.  He married Thomsen Ellis in 1592.  (They have their own page.)

  3. Thomas Stedman was baptised on 7 September 1572 in Bolney.  He may have been buried on 24 September 1606 in Cowfold.

    Thomas may have married Alice Humfrie on 15 September 1592 in Cowfold.

    The Bolney burial register records that an Alice Stedman was buried on 11 December 1596.  Thomas and Alice may have had the following child:

    1. Thomas Stedman may have been part of this family.  He was baptised on 18 June 1595 in Bolney, but neither of his parents were named in the baptism register.



John Stedman was buried on 1 February 1594/5 in Bolney.

John Stedman was buried on 6 March 1626/7 in Cowfold.  The burial register recorded that he was from the Forest of St. Leonards.

Mary Stedman married Richard Burt on 17 August 1635 in Cuckfield.

Mary Stedman of Cuckfield left a will proved at Lewes in 1795 (ref. A67-18)

Richard Stedman of Cuckfield left a will proved at Lewes in 1764 (ref. A61-23)

Richard Stedman of Cuckfield left a will proved at Lewes in 1780 (ref. 64-184)
