John STEDMAN (c1660-1711)
and Elizabeth SAWYER (c1660-1734)

John Stedman
and Elizabeth Sawyer married
by licence on 11 November 1684 in Cuckfield, Sussex. Their marriage
licence was issued on 8 November 1684 by the Archdeaconry of Lewes. It
noted that John was of Cuckfield, whilst Elizabeth Sawyers was
a spinster of Lindfield. The sponsors of the licence were John himself and
Thomas Trendel of Cuckfield.
John Stedman
was a carpenter. He may have been baptised
on 23 June 1661, the son of
Richard Stedman and Joane
or on 6 February 1664/5, the son of
John Stedman and
Betteris. Both baptisms took place in Cuckfield.
A John Stedman of the parish of Cuckfield was buried on 16 June
1711 in Slaugham.
Elizabeth Sawyer's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown,
to me. Elizabeth wife of John Stedman was buried on
15 February 1734 in Slaugham.
John Stedman and Elizabeth Sawyer had 9 known children:

John Stedman was buried on 4 April 1684 in Slaugham.
It was noted in the burial register that he was the son John Stedman,
being of ye parish of Cuckfield.

Elizabeth Stedman was buried on 11 April 1690 in Slaugham.
It was noted in the burial register that she was the daughter of
John Stedman.

Joanna Stedman was baptised sometime between 16 October
1688 and 31 January 1688/9 in Slaugham. Only her father's name was
recorded in the baptism register and he was of Cuckfield. She was
buried in Slaugham on 12 November 1689 and it was noted in the burial
register that she was the daughter of John Stedman.

Elizabeth Stedman was baptised on 31 October 1690 in
Slaugham. Only her father's name was recorded in the baptism register.
She may have married Thomas Jenner on 26 April 1720 in
Slaugham. She was then of Slaugham and he of Beeding.

Joanna Steedman was baptised on 12 January 1692/3 in
Slaugham. Only her father's name was recorded in the baptism register.

Joan Steadman was baptised on 9 July 1696 in Slaugham.
Her parents were named as John and Sarah. She was buried on 5 November
1700 in Slaugham and it was noted in the burial register that she was the
daughter of John Stedman who was a carpenter.

John Steadman was baptised on 19 November 1698 in Slaugham.
Only his father's name was recorded in the baptism register. He was
buried on 19 August 1701 in Slaugham and it was noted in the burial register
that he was the son of John and Elizabeth Stedman
and that his father was a carpenter.

Richard Steadman was baptised on 16 May 1701 in Slaugham.
Both his parents were named in the baptism register and it was also noted
that his father was a carpenter. Did he marry
Ann Tasker
by licence on 24 June 1728 at St. Annes, Lewes? Their marriage licence was issued on the same day by
the Archdeaconry of Lewes and noted that Richard was a carpenter of Cuckfield
and Ann was a spinster of Barcombe. Or did he marry
Ann Simmonds on 2
February 1732/3 in Ardingly, Sussex? At the time of their marriage Richard was of Slaugham and Ann of Ardingly.
Richard and Ann, nee Tasker named their
children: Ann, Richard, John, Sarah and William.
Richard and Ann, nee Simmonds named their children: Ann, Richard, Thomas and Martha.

John Steadman was baptised on 1 September 1704 in Slaugham.
Both his parents were named in the baptism register. He may have been
buried on 2 August 1741 in Slaugham.
John may have married Mary Jackson on 3 April 1733 in
Slaugham.
John and Mary may have had the following children:
