John STANLEY (1656-?)

and Ann (?-?)

and Elizabeth TANNER (1656-?)

John Stanley and Elizabeth Tanner may have been my 8x Great Grandparents.  They married on 19 May 1685 in Ringmer, Sussex.  He was then described as John, junior and they were both of Ringmer.  John had previously married Ann, but no possible marriage has been found for them in the Sussex Family History Group's marriage index or the IGI.

John Stanley was baptised on 10 May 1656 in Ringmer.  He was the son of John Stanley (1629-?) and Jane

Ann may have died as a result of giving birth to twins.

Elizabeth Tanner was baptised on 2 February 1655/6 in Laughton, Sussex.  She was the daughter of Thomas Tanner (1625-?) and Joan Vine (1621-?).

John Stanley and Ann had 2 known children:

  1. John Stanley was baptised on 18 February 1678/9 in Ringmer.

  2. Mary Stanley was baptised on 18 February 1678/9 in Ringmer.

John Stanley and Elizabeth Tanner had 3 known children:

  1. Elizabeth Stanley (my possible 7x Great Grandmother) was baptised on 14 March 1685/6 in Ringmer.  She married George Hyland in 1723.  (They have their own page.)

  2. Ann Stanley was baptised on 18 December 1688 in Ringmer.  She may have married John Smith by licence on 28 May 1723 in Laughton.  She was then of Glynde and he of Laughton.

  3. Mary Stanley was baptised on 15 January 1691/2 in Ringmer.
