John SPICER (1750-1809)
and Mary DOWNER (c1755-1847)

John
Spicer and
Mary Downer
married by Licence on 13 May 1782 in
Brighton. He was then a Batchelor and she a Spinster who were both of
Brighton.
John
Spicer was baptised on 28 September
1750 in Brighton. He was the son of
Richard Spicer (1722-?) and
Mary Ashby (1724-1769). He was buried on 8 June 1809 in Brighton.
Mary Downer
was born about 1755 and died aged 92 years
at Victoria Street, Brighton. She was buried on 28 January 1847 in
Brighton.
John Spicer and Mary
Downer had 6 known children:
-
Mary Spicer was
baptised on 15 August 1783 at St. Nicholas, Brighton. She may have
married John Jordan by Licence on 15 December 1810. He was a
Bachelor and she a Spinster who married with consent. They were both
of Brighton.
-
John Spicer
was baptised on 3 July 1785 at St.
Nicholas, Brighton and probably died as an infant.
-
John Spicer
was baptised on 15 October 1787 at St.
Nicholas, Brighton.
-
Ashby Spicer
(1788-?) married
Esther Kent
in 1816. (They have their own page.)
-
Sarah Spicer
was baptised on 6 December 1789 at St.
Nicholas, Brighton. A Sarah Spicer aged 36 years was buried
on 3 February 1824 in Brighton.
-
Anne Spicer was born on 10 May 1798 and baptised on 17 June 1798 at
St. Nicholas, Brighton.
My 4x Great Grandfather was
Richard Spicer who I would guess was born about 1780, but no baptism has
been found for him. I don’t think
John and Mary were the parents of Richard, unless John was
previously married to someone else.
