My Spicer AncestorsJane Spicer was my 2x Great Grandmother. She was born in 1842 in Brighton, Sussex. In 1864 she married John Simmons Back. Jane was the daughter of William Spicer and Sophia Dixon. William was a fisherman of Brighton and there had been earlier Spicer Fisherman in Brighton. He was born in 1809 and his parents were Richard Spicer and Martha Howell. I am fairly confident that Richard was the son of Richard Spicer and Ann Terry and I would guess he was born about 1780. His wife Martha was born in 1778 in Brighton to John Howell and Sybil Westmore and Sybil's mother was Mary Spicer.
I would like to thank Allen Spicer for additional information about our Spicer ancestors. Allen like myself is a member of the Sussex Family History Group and in the June 2004 edition of the SFHG's journal there is an article written by Allen entitled "The Spicers of Brighton".
