Early Sussex SNASHALL Families

(pre 1700) 

 

 

Robert Snashall was buried on 26 March 1567 in Brightling.

Peter Snachell and Mary Newman married on 27 November 1581 in Rotherfield.

Andrew Snatchell and Margery Harbind married on 23 May 1585 in Rotherfield.  Might they have had a son:

  1. Andrew Snashall who was buried on 17 November 1664 in Horsham, and who was described in the burial register as a poor bachellor?

William Snashall and Joan Teaster married on 5 November 1592 in Framfield.  A William Snasshall was buried on 23 July 1597 in Framfield.  Joan Tester was probably baptised on 2 February 1567 in Framfield.

James Snashall and Elizabeth Turner married on 31 January 1596/7 in Nuthurst.

Richard Snashall and Jane married before 1613.  They may have had the following children:

  1. Richard Snashall was baptised on 12 December 1613 in Horsham.  Was he the Richard Snashall in Buxted in 1636?  Probably not.

  2. John Snashall was baptised on 30 November 1615 in Horsham.  Did he marry Mary Kenward in 1637 in Buxted?  Probably not.

  3. Samuel Snashall was baptised on 23 February 1616/7 in Slaugham.  Was he the Samuel Snashall in Cuckfield in 1645?

  4. Robert Snashall was baptised on 3 March 1623/4 in Slaugham.  Was he the Robert Snashall in Slaugham in 1655?

  5. William Snashall was baptised on 20 September 1626 in Slaugham.  Was he the William Snashall in East Grinstead in 1654?

  6. Henry Snashall was baptised on 28 October 1628 in Slaugham.  Was he the Henry Snashall in Crawley in 1653?

  7. John Snashall was baptised on 16 February 1633/4 in Slaugham.  Might he have been a son of Richard born in 1613?

The following burials took place in Slaugham:  Edward Snashall on 26 February 1637; [widow] Snashall on 10 May 1638; Joan Snasall on 25 February 1639; Edward Snashall on 15 January 1641.

William Snachell and Mary Knight married on 2 May 1613 in Rotherfield.  As a widow, might Mary Snachell have married John Ovenden by licence on 15 August 1637 at St. John sub Castro, Lewes?  He was a Husbandman and they were both of Rotherfield.

Thomas Snachell and Katherine Harman married on 16 October 1615 in Rotherfield.

Robert Snayshewell and Ann Gastone married on 12 August 1621 in Crawley.  He may then have married Amye before 1635.  They may have had the following children:

  1. Mary Snashall was baptised on 19 June 1630 in Crawley.  Might she have married Stephen Rider on 11 May 1652 in Horsham?

  2. Thomas Snashall was baptised on 24 February 1632/3 in Crawley.  Was he the Thomas Snashall in Slaugham in 1657?

  3. John Snashall was baptised on 21 February 1635/6 in Crawley.  His mother's name was recorded as Amye.

  4. Aimy Snasher was buried on 22 April 1642 in Nuthurst as the daughter of Robert.

[Blank] Snashall was buried on 18 January 1672 in Crawley.

Simon Snachell and Ann Aynscombe married on 3 August 1624 in Rotherfield.

Henry Snachall and Joanna Gillam married in September 1626 in Shipley.  They had the following children:

  1. Henricus Snatchell was buried in September 1627 in Shipley as the son of Henrici.

  2. Jone Snashall was baptised on 15 February 1628/9 in Slaugham.

Joan wife of Henry Snashall was buried on 23 February 1628/9 in Slaugham.

Might Henry have been the father:

  1. Elizabeth Snashall who married John Daniell on 26 February 1655/6 in Horsham.  John and Elizabeth were both of Shipley at the time of their marriage.  Before her marriage Elizabeth had an illegitimate son:

    1. Richard Snashall who was born on 6 November 1655 in Shipley. 

  2. Edward Snashal was buried on 26 February 1637/8 in Slaugham as the son of Henry.

  3. John Snasholm who was buried on 27 October 1667 in Shipley?

Henry Snashall was buried on 8 May 1640 in Shipley.

An Ann Snashfould, widow was buried on 27 April 1690 in Shipley.

John Snatchell and Ann Collens, widow, married on 24 July 1628 in Kirdford.

Alexander Snasher and Mary married before 1633.  They may have had the following children:

  1. John Snasher was baptised on 26 May 1633 in West Chiltington.

  2. Mary Snasher was baptised on 7 February 1635/6 in West Chiltington.

  3. Alexander Snasher was baptised on 5 October 1638 in West Chiltington.

  4. Jane Snasher was baptised on 5 October 1638 in West Chiltington.

Richard Snashall married unknown before 1636.  Was he the Richard Snashall born in Horsham in 1613?  They had the following child:

  1. Richard Snashall was baptised on 18 December 1636 in Buxted.  Did he marry Elizabeth Scrace in West Hoathly in 1664?

A Richard Snashold was buried on 14 May 1669 in Balcombe and an Elizabeth Snashal was buried there on 11 March 1693.

John Snashall and Mary Kenward married by licence on 13 February 1636/7 in Buxted.  Their marriage licence was issued on 11 February 1636/7 in the South Malling Peculiar, which recorded that Mary was a spinster and that they were both of Buxted.  Was he the John Snashall born in Horsham in 1615?

John Snatchell and Elizabeth Kemp married on 28 April 1639 in Kirdford.

Simon Snachell and Mary Luce married on 24 September 1639 in Rotherfield.

Bartholomew Snatchell and Joan Brockhurst married on 16 November 1643 in Kirdford.

Samuel Snashall and Elizabeth married before 1645.  Was he the Samuel Snashall born in Slaugham in 1617?  Samuel probably died before October 1672.  They had the following children:

  1. Samuel Snashall was baptised on 20 June 1645 in Cuckfield.  Is this the Samuel Snashall who was in Hurstpierpoint in 1672?

  2. Elizabeth Snashall was baptised on 21 March 1647 in Cuckfield.

  3. Ann Snashall was baptised on 15 December 1648 in Cuckfield.

  4. Thomas Snashall was baptised on 16 January 1651/2 in Cuckfield.

  5. Sarah Snashall was baptised on 14 February 1653/4 in Cuckfield.

  6. John Snashall was born on 9 April 1656 in Keymer and baptised on 23 April 1656 in Cuckfield.

Is this the same Samuel Snashall who was living in Hurstpierpoint in 1659?

 

Richard Snashall married unknown before 1654.  They had the following children:

  1. Joane Snashall was born on 20 March 1654 in Thakeham.  Did she marry Samuel Potter on 28 February 1687/8 in Warnham?

  2. Jeane Snashall was born on 10 October 1655 in Thakeham.

William Snashall and Mercye married before 1654.  Was he the William Snashall born in Slaugham in 1626?  They had the following children:

  1. Thomas Snashall was baptised on 10 May 1654 in East Grinstead.

  2. William Snashall was baptised on 6 December 1655 in East Grinstead and buried in December 1660.

  3. A child of William Snashall, gent, was buried on 18 May 1658 in East Grinstead.

  4. Elizabeth Snashall was baptised on 26 May 1659 in East Grinstead.

  5. William Snashall was baptised on 17 November 1661 in East Grinstead.

Robert Snashall married Jane before 1655.  Was he the Robert Snashall born in Slaugham in 1624?  They had the following children:

  1. Elisabeth Snashall was born on 6 July 1655 in Slaugham.

  2. Jane Snashall was born on 19 April 1657 in Slaugham.

  3. Constance Snashall was baptised on 3 January 1659 in Slaugham.  Might she have married Francis Furminger on 18 May 1693 in Cowden, Kent?

  4. Francis Snashall was baptised on 31 March 1661 in Slaugham.  The IGI records the baptism as a male, but might it have been a female?  And might Frances Snashall have married William Peckham on 7 April 1687 in Cowden?

Jane wife of Robert Snashall  was buried on 28 December 1664 in Slaugham.  Robert Snashall was buried on 18 July 1704 in Slaugham.  The IGI records that a Robert Snashall married Jane Bunducks on 11 July 1644 at St. Martin Orgar and St. Clements Eastcheap in London.  Robert Snashall of Slaugham left a will in 1705

Thomas Snashall married unknown before 1657.  Was he the Thomas Snashall born in Crawley in 1633?  They had the following children:

  1. Mary Snashall was born on 8 May 1657 in Slaugham.

  2. John Snashall was baptised on 3 March 1663 in Slaugham.  Did he marry Ann Garston in Slaugham in 1688?

  3. Mary Snashall was baptised in March 1666 in Slaugham.  She was buried on 6 May 1669 in Slaugham, as the daughter of Thomas Snashall.

On 11 August 1656, Thomas Snashall was a witness to the conveyance of property in Slaugham.  Thomas Snashall, labourer was buried on 25 July 1700 in Slaugham.

A Thomas Snashall of Shipley left a will dated/proved on 7 January 1708.  I have not found a burial for him in a transcript of the Shipley registers.

Samuel Snashall married unknown before 1659.  Is this the same Samuel Snashall who was in Cuckfield from 1645-1654?  They had the following child:

  1. Mary Snashall was baptised on 1659/60 in Hurstpierpoint.

Richard Snashall and Elizabeth Scrase married on 7 May 1664 in West Hoathly.  Was he the Richard Snashall born in Buxted in 1636?

John Snashall and Eleanor Freeman married on 19 February 1666/7 in West Grinstead.  Might John have had a sister Agnes Snashall who married Roger Ayling by banns on 13 May 1676 in West Grinstead?

Samuel Snashall and Mary married before 1672.  Was this the Samuel Snashall who was born in Cuckfield in 1645?  They had the following child:

  1. Sarah Snashall was baptised on 9 April 1672 in Hurstpierpoint and buried on 14 September 1675.

On 21 October 1672, a Samuel Snashall, Farrier of Hurstpierpoint, together with Elizabeth Snashall, widow, conveyed property to Samuel Tapsal, Yeoman of Maresfield.  A Bond was drawn up by Samuel Snashall of Hurstpierpoint to Samuel Tapsell on 20 January 1675.  In 1676 Samuel took over the mortgage on Lambes in Hurstpierpoint.  On 22 June 1683 he purchased Hatbois and Randidles in Hurstpierpoint.

John Snashall and Elizabeth Theakstone married on 1 April 1673 in Rotherfield.  They may have had the following child:

  1. Elizabeth Snashall was baptised on 28 March 1675 in Rotherfield.

Robert Snashall and Elizabeth Towse married on 16 October 1679 in Billingshurst.  He was then of Chiltington and she of Billingshurst.  They may have had the following child:

  1. John Snashall was baptised on 15 August 1680 in West Chiltington.  He married Mary Bishop in 1704.

John Snashall and Elizabeth Hammond married on 20 June 1681 at the Quaker Meeting House in Cuckfield.  He was then a Blacksmith of Hurstpierpoint and she a Spinster of Crawley.  John may have been born about 1654.  He died aged 76 years and was buried as a Quaker on 15 September 1732 in Twineham.  Might John have had a sister Sarah Snashfold who married Richard Newell on 6 April 1680 at the Quaker Meeting House in Arundel?

Thomas Snashall and Elizabeth Weaver married on 27 April 1682 in Rotherfield.  They may have had the following children:

  1. Anne Snashall was baptised on 25 February 1682/3 in Rotherfield.

  2. Mary Snashall was baptised on 11 November 1688 in Rotherfield.

  3. Thomas Snashall was baptised on 4 May 1690 in Rotherfield.

  4. Simon Snashall was baptised on 26 June 1692 in Rotherfield.

John Snashall and Ann Garston married on 7 February 1687/8 in Slaugham, Sussex.  Was he the John Snashall born in Slaugham in 1663?

A John Snashall was buried on 19 March 1704/5 in Slaugham.  Anne Snashall, widow was buried on 9 April 1731 in Slaugham.

John and Ann had the following children:

  1. Susanna Snashall was baptised on 8 January 1692/3 in Slaugham.  Only her father's name was recorded in the baptism register.

  2. Jane Snashall was baptised on 10 February 1694/5 in Slaugham.  Only her father's name was recorded in the baptism register.

  3. John Snashall was baptised on 1 May 1696 in Slaugham.  Only his father's name was recorded in the baptism register.  He may have married Sarah Jenner in Cuckfield in 1723.  (They have their own page.)

  4. Robert Snashall was baptised on 14 April 1698 in Slaugham.  The baptism register noted that he was the son of John and Ann.

  5. Elizabeth Snashall was baptised on 7 February 1700/1 in Slaugham.  The baptism register noted that she was the daughter of John and Ann.

John Snashall and Elizabeth married before 1687.

Might John have been the son of John Snashall and Eleanor Freeman who married on 19 February 1666/7 in West Grinstead?  Ellinor may have been baptised on 3 July 1642 in Shipley, Sussex and have been the daughter of William Freeman.

A John Snashall was buried on 8 December 1732 in West Grinstead.

John and Elizabeth had the following children:

  1. Mary Snashall was baptised on 15 January 1686/7 in West Grinstead.

  2. Ann Snashall was baptised on 17 March 1688/9 in West Grinstead.  She probably died as an infant.

  3. John Snashall was baptised on 23 March 1689/90 in West Grinstead.  Might he have married Elizabeth Barden in 1720 in Shermanbury?

  4. Ann Snashall was baptised on 7 February 1692/3 in West Grinstead and may have been buried there on 19 April 1693.

  5. Edmund Snashall was baptised on 6 February 1693/4 in West Grinstead and buried there on 11 February 1693/4.

  6. Henry Snechall was baptised on 19 May 1696 in West Grinstead.  He was buried on 23 March 1726/7 in West Grinstead and it was noted in the burial register that he was a single man from Steyning.

  7. Thomas Snashall was baptised on 29 June 1699 in West Grinstead and buried there on 19 April 1710.

  8. Samuel Snashall was baptised on 18 April 1703 in West Grinstead.

    Samuel married Mary Ethridge by banns on 2 October 1729 in West Grinstead.  The wife of Samuel Snashall from Ashurst was buried in West Grinstead on 10 March 1775.

    On 1 January 1730 a settlement certificate was issued to Samuel Snashall by the overseers of West Grinstead to enable him to settle in Ashurst.

Samuel Snashall and Tamsin Newington married on 5 September 1689 in Kingston by Sea.

John Snashall and Sarah Comber married by licence dated 16 October 1696, which was issued by the Archdeaconry of Lewes.  John was of New Shoreham, Sussex and Sarah was a Spinster of Lewes.

An Elizabeth Snashall was buried on 15 December 1696 in New Shoreham.

In 1702 there was a John Snashall, Maulster of Lewes.  He may have had a son named John Snashall who in 1730 was described as the 'younger of Lewes, gent'.

 

 

 

John Snashall of Twineham

John Snashall was born about 1656, as per the following is an extract from the A2A web site:
