Thomas SMART (c1761-1823)
and Elizabeth OLDER (1753-1817)

Thomas Smart and Elizabeth Bennett married
by banns on 11 May 1784 in Horsham, Sussex. He was he was then a
bachelor and she a widow and they were both of Horsham. The witnesses
to their marriage were Elizabeth Smart and Richard
Howes. Previously
as Elizabeth Older she may have married Henry
Bennett by banns on 21 June 1774 in Warnham, Sussex. He was a
bachelor and she a spinster. The witnesses to their marriage were
Robert Clark and William Steere.
(They were not my direct ancestors.)
Thomas Smart's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown,
to me. He died aged 62 years and was buried on 19 March 1823 in
Horsham, therefore, he was born about 1760/1.
Elizabeth was probably baptised as Betty Older
on 13 May 1753 in Billingshurst, Sussex, the daughter of
Solomon Older (1716-?)and
Elizabeth Elliott.
She died aged 64 years and was buried on 16 November 1817 in Horsham (i.e.
born about 1753). The burial register records that Elizabeth
was the wife of Thomas Smart.
Henry Bennett was most probably baptised on 13 December
1746 in Warnham, the son of Henry Bennett and
Ann Charman. He may have been buried on
2 February 1781 in Warnham.
