Thomas SLATER (1696-1743)

and Jane JUPP (1708-1790)


Thomas Slater and Jane Jupp  married by licence on 1 May 1730 in West Grinstead, Sussex.  They were both then of West Grinstead.  The Sussex marriage index records her name as Jane, but her name was recorded as Anne against the baptisms of their children.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

Thomas Slater was baptised on 27 March 1696 in West Grinstead, Sussex.  He was the son of Edward Slater and Mary Hoaten.  Thomas was buried on 9 April 1743 in West Grinstead.

Jane Jupp was baptised 13 January 1707/8 in West Grinstead, Sussex.  She was the daughter of John Jupp and Elizabeth Soale.  She may have been buried on 21 May 1790 in West Grinstead as the widow Slater.


Thomas Slater and Jane Jupp had 6 known children:

  1. Jane Slater was baptised on 20 September 1731 in West Grinstead and buried there on 23 March 1743.

  2. Sarah Slater was baptised on 10 July 1735 in West Grinstead and buried there on 8 January 1735/6.

  3. Elizabeth Slater was baptised on 10 November 1736 in West Grinstead.

  4. Alice Slater was baptised on 21 July 1738 in West Grinstead and buried there on 28 November 1741.

  5. Thomas Slater was baptised on 10 June 1740 in West Grinstead.

  6. James Slater was baptised on 25 May 1742 in West Grinstead.


Jane Slater, nee Jupp had 1 known son:

  1. John Slater was baptised on 6 January 1749 in West Grinstead, as the base born son of the widow Slater.
