Robert SIMMONGS
(1810-1869)
and Susan PICKERING (?-?)

Robert Simmonds and Susan Pickering
married by banns on 6 February 1836 in Trotton, Sussex. He was a
bachelor and she a spinster. The witnesses to their marriage were
James Blackmore and Mary Pickering.
(They were not my direct ancestors.)
Robert Simmonds was probably
born in Trotton, the son of Peter Simmonds (1762-1814) and
Dinah Huntingford (1766-1831). A transcript of the
baptism register says he was born on 16 August 1810 and baptised on 24 June
1810! He died aged 58 years and was buried on 21 January 1869 in
Trotton. Robert was most probably a witnesses to the marriage of my 3x
Great Grandmother
Sarah Baxter to
John Restall
on 24 May 1833 in Bepton. I assume Robert was a friend of John and
Sarah.
Susan Pickerings date and place of birth/baptism are
unknown, to me.
In 1841 the couple and 2 sons were living in Elsted and Robert was a 30 year
old wheelwright. Susan was then said to be 25 years old and not born
in Sussex.
