Hugh Simonds
and
Susan Eliott
married on
30 August 1659 at the parish church of St. Peter's in Ardingly, Sussex. As
Hugh Simons he had previously married Ann Newman
on 5 May 1655 in Horsham, Sussex. He was then said to be a hammerman from
Ardingly, whilst she was a servant from Balcombe.
Hew
Simmons was baptised on 27 September 1626
in Ardingly. He was the son of

(1599-?). He was buried on 15 May 1688
in Ardingly. The burial register records that he was the husband of
Susanna Symonds.
He married twice. Firstly to
Ann Newman
on 5 May 1655 in Horsham, Sussex.
Ann Newman’s
date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me. She may have died in 1656,
but the Ardingly
burial register for 1656 is missing. Note, the surname Newman is often
recorded as Newnham.
Susan Elliotte
was baptised on 14 October 1638 in Ardingly.
She was the daughter of

(1614-?). She was buried on 17 May 1722
in Ardingly. The burial register records that
Suzannah Symons
was a poor widow.

on 2 June 1685 in Ardingly.

He died aged 79 years and was buried on 19 February 1739/40 in Ardingly.
Hugh

sometime before or about 1688/9.
No possible marriage for them has been found in the Sussex or Surrey
marriage indexes.
Susanna may have died aged died aged 70 years and have been buried on 13
November 1737 in Ardingly, but the burial register records that it was
Anne Simons who was buried.

As Hugh Simmonds he may have married Ann Marchant
on 22 April 1725 in Balcombe, Sussex, and/or Elizabeth Randal
on 27 December 1727 in Plumpton, Sussex. However, he did have 2
cousins named Hugh: Hugh

was born on 20 May 1700 and baptised on 15 June 1700 in Ardingly.
As William Simonds did he marry Esther Norman
on 21 April 1726 in Horsted Keynes, Sussex? William was then of
Balcombe and Esther of Horsted Keynes. However, he did have a cousin,
William Symonds
born in 1705, and there may have been other Williams of similar age.

may have married Mary Sherlock on 29 February 1735/6 in
Ardingly. Mary died aged 27 years and was buried on 1 June 1736 in

on 2 September 1731 in Ardingly. Joseph was then said to be of Worth
and Sarah of Ardingly.

John Roser.
He was buried on 24 March 1711/2 in Lindfield.

She married John Cave on 11 May 1708 in Lindfield.

burial register recorded his name as William Simons.

Elizabeth died aged 83 years and was buried on
18 June 1759 in Ardingly. Her name was recorded as Elizabeth
Symonds in the burial register.

As Elizabeth Simons she married Walter West
