Thomas SILVESTER (c1749-1816)

and Elizabeth HILL (?-1804)

 

Thomas Silvester and Elizabeth Hill married by banns on 1 July 1781 in Henfield, Sussex.  He was a bachelor from Sompting and she a spinster of Henfield.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

Thomas Silvester was born about 1749.  He died aged 67 years and was buried on 10 March 1816 in Patching, Sussex.

Elizabeth Hill's date and place of birth are unknown, to me.  She was buried on 19 December 1804 in Patching, Sussex.  The burial register noted she was the wife of Thomas Silvester.  She may have been baptised on 11 January 1756, the daughter of William Hill and Winifred Gervise or on 7 February 1762, the daughter of John Hills and Mary.  Both baptism took place in Henfield.

 

Thomas Silvester and Elizabeth Hill had 7 known children:

  1. Ann Silvester was baptised on 16 December 1787 in Patching.  Ann married Charles Caplen by banns on 27 December 1816 in Brighton, Sussex.  He was a bachelor and she a spinster and they were both of Brighton.

  2. Mary Silvester was baptised on 17 October 1790 in Patching.  She married Arthur Wadey in 1818.  (They have their own page.)

  3. Edward Silvester was baptised on 14 September 1793 in Patching.

  4. Geany Silvester was baptised on 19 July 1795 in Patching.

    Jean married Henry Bulbeck by banns on 3 August 1814 in Patching.  She was a spinster and he a bachelor and married with the consent of his parents.

    When the 1851 census was recorded Gainah Bulbeck was a 55 year old widow and pauper living in Worth, Sussex.  Also with her was her daughter Martha E. and 2 lodgers, namely George Smith and Thomas Bras??.  Gainah gave her place of birth as Patching.

    Henry and Gainey had the following children:

    1. Jane Bulbeck was baptised on 27 October 1816 in Patching.  The baptism register noted her father was a labourer.

    2. George Bulbeck was baptised on 27 December 1818 in Patching.  The baptism register noted his father was a labourer.

    3. Edward Bulbeck was baptised on 26 August 1821 in Patching.  The baptism register noted his father was a labourer.

    4. Esther Bulbeck was baptised on 27 June 1824 in Patching.  The baptism register noted her father was a labourer.

    5. Elizabeth Bulbeck was baptised on 22 March 1829 in Patching.  The baptism register noted her father was a labourer.

    6. Martha Ednay Bulkbeck was baptised on 11 September 1831 in Patching.  The baptism register noted her father was a labourer.  The 1851 census recorded she was 17 years old.

  5. Esther Silvester was baptised on 20 April 1800 in Patching.

  6. Jane Silvester was baptised on 28 February 1802 in Patching.  She married Benjamin Bagshall in 1823.  (They have their own page.)

  7. George Silvester was baptised on 2 December 1804 in Patching and buried there on 9 December 1804.

 

Martha Silvester married James Terrey by banns on 23 October 1805 in Patching.  They were both of Patching.

James and Martha had the following children:

  1. Mary Anne Terry was baptised on 24 May 1807 in Patching.

  2. Charlotte Terry was baptised on 19 August 1810 in Patching.  Charlotte married William Knowles by banns on 21 November 1830 in Patching.  She was a spinster of Patching and he a bachelor of Clapham.

  3. Caroline Terry was baptised on 19 January 1823 in Patching.  The baptism register noted her father was a carpenter.

 

Thomas Sylvester and Nancy had the following children:

  1. Eleanor Sylvester was baptised on 30 March 1815 in Angmering.

  2. William Silvester was baptised on 5 November 1820 in Stoughton.  The baptism register noted his father was a gardener from Stansted.

  3. Edward Silvester was baptised on 28 April 1822 in Soughton.  The baptism register noted his father was a labourer.

  4. Jane Sylvester was baptised on 31 August 1825 in Brighton.  The baptism register noted her father was a carpenter from Essex Street.
