Richard SILVERSON
(1749-1823)
and Sarah HARLAND (c1751-1827)

Richard
Sylverson and Sarah Harland
were my step 5x Great Grandparents.
(Click here to see their place in my pedigree chart.) They
married on 7 April 1776 in Hurstpierpoint, Sussex.
His name was then recorded as Richard Selverson.
Richard
Silverstone
was baptised on 14 January 1749/50 in Albourne, Sussex. He was the eldest child and son of
Richard Silverson
(1726-1791) and
Ann Tree (1722-1801). He died aged 74 years was buried on 25
January 1823 in Woodmancote, Sussex
Sarah Harland
died aged 76 years in
Brighton, Sussex and was buried on 29 July 1827 in Woodmancote, therefore,
she was born about 1751. A
Sarah Harland was baptised on 4 December 1748 in Hurstpierpoint, the
daughter of Richard Harland and
Ann Juniper.
However, a Sarah Harland
married William Currenden on 15 April 1777 in
Hurstpierpoint. So which Sarah was baptised in 1748? A
Henry Harland and Elizabeth Gander married on 5
February 1750/1 in Hurstpierpoint - might they have had a daughter Sarah?
Richard Silverson and
Sarah Harland had 7
known children:
-
Jane Silverston was
baptised on 20 July 1777 in
Albourne. She married
John Richardson
in 1807. (They have their own page.)
-
Elizabeth Silverstone
was baptised on 21 May 1780 in Albourne.
-
Henry Silverstone was
baptised on 24 August 1783
in Albourne.
Henry married Anne Sayers
by banns on 4 June 1805 at St. Andrews in Edburton, Sussex. He was
then a bachelor (surname spelt Silverstone) and she a spinster. They
were both of Edburton and both made their X marks. The witnesses
were Jane Silverstone (marked) and John Parsons (signed).
Henry and Anne had 1 known son:
-
Richard Sylvester was baptised on 6 November
1808 in Edburton and buried there on 26 March 1809 aged 4 months.
He was baptised and buried as Sylvester. There is a headstone
marking his grave in the churchyard which notes that he died aged 19
weeks on 20 March 1809, and his name was recorded there as
Richard Silvester.
-
Lydia Silverstone was
baptised on 3 September 1786
in Albourne. She was buried in
Woodmancote on 2 March 1806, as Lydia Silverson.
-
Richard Silverson,
my step 4x great grandfather,
was baptised on 3 August 1788 in Woodmancote. He married twice.
Firstly to
Sarah Wood in 1807 and then to Mary sometime before or
about 1811. (They have their own page.)
-
John Silverston was baptised on 23 January 1791
in Woodmancote. He died aged 60 years in
New Shoreham, Sussex and was buried on 20 June 1851 in Woodmancote as
John Silversone. When the 1851 census was recorded he was a
pauper resident at the New Shoreham Workhouse. He was then said to
have been married, but there were no female Silversons in the workhouse at
that time, nor have I found a possible marriage for John.
-
Sarah Silverson was baptised on 7 June 1795 in
Woodmancote as Sarah Silverson.
