and Jane AVERY (?-?)
and Mary (?-1695)
Richard Silvester and Jane Avery married on 2 June 1667 in
Sompting, Sussex. Richard may next have married Mary, or Jane
and Mary may have been one and the same.
Richard Silvester's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to
me. Although his children were baptised in Botolphs, Sussex, his own
baptism was not recorded in the parish register. The Botolphs burial
register records that a Richard Silvester was buried on 22 May 1692.
Might Richard have been the son of John Silvester and Mary Blake
who married on 31 May 1638 in West Tarring, Sussex? John Silvester
of Sompting left a will in 1676 (ref. 27 49). Mary Sylvester,
widow, married Thomas Peeter on 22 November 1652 in West Tarring.
Jane Avery's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.
Her burial was not recorded in the Botolphs burial register. Might she
have been baptised on 30 August 1635 in Southwick, Sussex and have been the
daughter of John Averye and possibly Elizabeth Tester who had
married on 15 April 1623 in Southwick? But, if Jane was born in 1635
then it is unlikely she was the mother of the child born in 1692.
Mary's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me. She
was buried on 25 April 1695 in Botolphs and the burial register records that
she was Mary Silvester, widow.
Richard Silvester and Jane Avery had
5 known children:
John Silvester was baptised on 20 August 1668 in Botolphs.
Both his parents were named in the baptism register.
Richard Silvester was buried on 31 January 1671 in
Botolphs. A transcript of the burial register noted that he was
the son of Richard and Jane.
Mary Silvester was baptised on 22 March 1674/5 in Botolphs.
Both her parents were named in the baptism register. She may have
married Richard Marks on 9 October 1698 in New Shoreham, Sussex.
Mary was then a spinster.
Richard Silvester's baptism has not been found. He was buried
in October 1676 in Botolphs. Both his parents names were recorded in
the burial register.
Richard Silvester was baptised on 2 January 1680/1 in Botolphs and
buried there on 10 February 1680. The names of both his parents were
named in the baptism and burial register.
Might Richard and Jane have had a son named Thomas Silvester who married
Sarah Flight on 18 October 1706, and/or Elizabeth Faulkner
on 22 May 1716, both in Edburton, Sussex?
Richard Silvester and
Mary had 1 known son:
was baptised on 27 March 1692 in Botolphs. He married
in 1724 in Edburton. (They have their own page.)
