John Silverston and Jenny Gearin married by banns on 28 October 1776 in Patcham, Sussex.  They were both then of Patcham and both made their X marks.  The witnesses to their marriage were Philey Paine and Ann Silverson who both signed their names.  They were married by the Minister David Jenkins.  John Sylvestone next married Elizabeth Friend by banns on 2 March 1789 in Patcham.  They were both of Patcham and both made their X marks.  The witnesses to the marriage were James Lee and Thomas Simmons who both signed their names.  They were married by the Curate George Jackson.  (They were not my direct ancestors.

John Sylveston was baptised on 16 February 1751/2 in Albourne, Sussex.  He was the son of Richard Silverson (1726-1791) and Ann Tree (1722-1801).  John died aged 60 years and was buried in Patcham on 1 February 1813.  The burial register records his name as John Silverson.

Jenny Gearin's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  Her name was recorded as Jane against the baptisms of her first 3 daughters and Jenny on the fourth.  She may have been baptised as Jenny Geering on 22 September 1751 in Keymer, Sussex and have been the daughter of Henry Gerring and Elizabeth, or as Jane Geering on 25 August 1754 in Keymer, Sussex and have been the daughter of Thomas Geering and Mary Alcock.  Jenny was buried in Patcham on 18 February 1787 and the burial registered records that she was the wife of John Siverstone.

Elizabeth Friend's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  She died aged 76 years and was buried on 24 February 1837 in Patcham.  The burial registered records her name as Elizabeth Silverson.

John Silverston and Jenny Gearin had 4 known children:

1. Ann Silverston was baptised on 19 January 1777 in Patcham and buried there as Ann Silverstone on 30 September 1778.

2. Ann Silverstone was baptised on 25 October 1778 in Patcham.

3. Frances Silverstone was baptised on 24 June 1781 in Patcham and buried there on 4 November 1781.

4. Elizabeth Silverstone was baptised 9 May 1784 in Patcham.  She died aged 18 years and was buried on 20 April 1802 in Patcham.

John Silverston and Elizabeth Friend had 10 known children:

5. John Silverstone was baptised on 5 July 1789 in Patcham and buried there on 23 September 1790.

6. Maria Silverstone was baptised on 1 May 1791 in Patcham.

   As Maria Silverson she married Philip King on 7 February 1811 at St. Nicholas in Brighton, Sussex.

7. Patience Silverstone was baptised on 10 February 1793 in Patcham and buried there on 24 August 1796 aged 4 years.

8. Richard Silverstone was baptised on 22 March 1795 in Patcham.  He married Caroline Louisa Oliver in 1822.  (They have their own page.)

9. Jane Silverstone was baptised on 18 September 1796 in Patcham and buried there on 24 September 1796 aged 1 month.

10. John Silverstone was baptised on 17 September 1797 in Patcham.  He died age 59 years and was buried on 20 February 1857 in Patcham.

    At John Silveston he married Susannah Barnard on 4 August 1834 in Brighton.

    Suanna was baptised on 28 October 1804 in Brighton and was the daughter of Henry Barnard and Susanna Piper.  She died aged 77 years and her death was registered in the fourth quarter of 1881 in the Brighton district.

    John and Susanna had 1 known daughter:

    1. Susannah Elizabeth Silveston was born in the third quarter of 1843 in the Steyning registration district.  She died aged 26 years and her death was registered in the first quarter of 1870 in the Brighton registration district.

11. Charles Silverstone was baptised on 9 June 1799 in Patcham.

12. Nathan Silverstone was born on 16 March 1801 in Patcham and baptised on 25 July 1803 at St. Nicholas in Brighton.  He married Ann Ockinden in 1827.  (They have their own page.)

13. Thomas Silverston was born on 4 August 1804 and baptised at the Countess of Huntingdon's Chapel in Brighton on 14 October 1804.  He was a witness to the marriage of his brother Nathan on 1 January 1827, at which time he was unable to sign his name.  Thomas died aged 33 years and was buried on 18 January 1838 in Patcham.

14. Barbary Silverson was born on 18 March 1807 and baptised on 26 April 1807 at the Countess of Huntingdon's Chapel in Brighton.  She was buried on 8 April 1808 in Patcham and the burial register records her name as Barbara Silverstone.

John Silvester and Sarah Lewis married by banns on 25 September 1825 in Patcham.  They were both then of Patcham.  John signed his name and Sarah made her X mark.  The witnesses to the marriage were John Wilkins (signed) and Elizabeth Bishop (marked).  They were married by the Curate William Wallinger.

John Sylvester was baptised on 30 August 1794 in Botley, Hampshire.  He was the son of John Silvester and Sarah Faithful.

John and Sarah had 4 known children:

1. Sarah Silvester was baptised on 13 May 1827 in Brighton.  She married Charles Evans on 31 May 1846 at St. Nicholas in Brighton.

2. Mary Anne Silvester was baptised on 22 June 1828 at St. Nicholas in Brighton.

3. Emily Silvester was baptised on 18 or 24 June 1832 at St. Nicholas in Brighton.

4. John Silvester was born about 1835.
