Moses SETFORD (c1760-?)

and Mary WAKELING (c1765-?)

Moses Setford and Mary Wakeling or Wekeling married by banns on 29 January 1787 in Little Horsted, Sussex.  He was then of Newick and she of Little Horsted.  The banns were published in Newick.

Moses Setford may have been the son of John Setford and Ann.

Mary Wakeling - nothing more known, to me.

Moses Setford and Mary Wakeling had 10 known children:

  1. William Setford was baptised on 6 January 1788 in Lindfield, Sussex.  In 1851 he was an unmarried servant and general labourer living in the High Street, Lindfield.

  2. Elizabeth Setford was baptised on 29 March 1793 in Lindfield.

  3. James Setford was baptised on 23 August 1795 in Barcombe, Sussex.

James married Ann Agates by licence on 15 April 1817 in East Grinstead, Sussex.  Their marriage licence was issued on 14 April 1817 by the Archdeaconry of Lewes and recorded that James was a labourer of Lindfield aged 21 years and upwards.  Ann was then a spinster of East Grinstead aged 18 years and upwards and married with the consent of her father Richard Agates a labourer of West Hoathly.  Sponsorship of the licence was provided by James himself and Ralph Newman a shopkeeper of East Grinstead.

  4. Mary Ann Setford was baptised on 8 October 1797 in Lindfield.  She may have died age 27 years and have been buried as Mary Setford on 20 March 1824 at St. Peter and St. Paul in Lingfield, Surrey.

  5. Martha Setford was baptised on 9 February 1800 in Lindfield.  On 22 February 1815 a maintenance agreement was arranged between 15 year old Martha, her father and William Beard, master.  Another maintenance agreement was arranged on 5 March 1817 between 16 year old Martha and her father.

  6. Lucy Setford was baptised on 9 February 1800 in Lindfield.  On 22 February 1815 a maintenance agreement was arranged between 15 year old Lucy, her father and Henry Podmore, master.
