Henry SETFORD (c1812-1883)

and Emma SHORTER (c1817-1888)

 

Henry Setford and Emma Shorter married in the fourth quarter of 1846 in the Tonbridge, Kent registration district.

Henry Setford was born about 1812 in Rusper, Sussex.  He was most probably the son of David Setford (1774-1851) and Jane Hastings (c1779-1826).  He died aged 71 years in the fourth quarter of 1883 in the Poplar, London registration district.

Emma Shorter was born about 1817-9 in Trosley, Kent.  She died aged 71 years in the third quarter of 1888 in the Poplar district.

At the time of the 1861 census the family were living at 3 Upper Ann Street, David's Cottages in Plumstead and their surname was recorded as Scotford.  When the 1881 census was recorded the couple were living at 3 Walter Court in London and Henry was a general labourer.

 

Henry Setford and Emma Shorter had 6 known children:

  1. Jane Setford was born in the third quarter of 1842.  She was 18 years old and living with her parents when the 1861 census was recorded.  She may have married in the third quarter of 1865 in the North Aylesford registration district.

  2. Caroline Setford was born on 8 May 1850 at Woolwich.

  3. Susannah Setford was born on 24 April 1853 at Plumstead.

  4. Henry George Setford was born on 7 October 1854 at Plumstead.

  5. Sarah Ann Setford was baptised on 20 July 1856 at Plumstead.

  6. William David Setford was baptised on 16 June 1859 at Plumstead.
