David SETFORD
(1774-1851)
and Jane HASTINGS (c1779-1826)
and Henrietta KEMP (c1788-?)

David
Setford and
Jane Hastings married on 18
October 1803 in Capel, Surrey. (The Surrey marriage index records her
surname as Hopkins.)
David then married Henrietta
Kemp by banns on 2 September 1827 in Lindfield, Sussex. He was
then
said to be a bachelor and she a spinster, and they were both of Lindfield.
The witnesses to the marriage were M. Marchant and
Sarah Marchant. (David's sister Amelia had married
William Marchant in 1798.)
David Setford
was baptised on 28 August 1774 in Horsted Keynes, Sussex. He
was the son of
Charles Setford (c1745-1808) and Hannah. He died
aged 75 years in Buxted, Sussex and was buried on 27 April 1851 in
Maresfield, Sussex.
Jane Hastings
was born about 1779 and was buried on 4 June 1826 in Maresfield,
Sussex.
Henrietta Kemp was born about 1788 in Heathfield, Sussex (as per the
1851 census transcript). A Hariot Kemp was born on 26 August
1790 and baptised on 22 October 1790 at the Independent Chapel in
Heathfield.
In 1841 David and Harriet were living at Batts Hill in Maresfield and he was
a farm labourer. By 1851 the couple were living in Five Ash Down in
Buxted, Sussex and he was still a farm labourer. When the 1861 census
was recorded, 77 year old widow Henrietta Setford was living alone,
near School Hill in Heathfield. Living next door to her at that time
was
John Gorringe and his wife and niece.
David Setford and Jane
Hastings may have had the following children:

She may have married George Gates on 10 October 1837 in Brighton,
