and Hannah QUINBY (1722-?)
John Sergeant and Hannah Quinby married on 11 January 1744/5
in Itchingfield, Sussex. They were both of West Chiltington.
John Sergent married Mary Bland
on 9 December 1744 in Upper Beeding, Sussex.
(They were not my direct ancestors.)
John Sergeant's date and place of birth/baptism are
unknown, to me. As will be seen from the baptisms of his children, his
surname varied between Sergeant and Surgeon.
Hannah Quinby was baptised in 1722 in West Chiltington.
She was the daughter of Zephaniah Quinby (1683-?) and
Hannah Heath. Her paternal grandparents were
Edward Quimby and Elizabeth Penfold.
John Sergeant and Hannah
Quinby had 7 known children:
Mary Surgeon was baptised on 27 October 1745 in West Chiltington.
John Surgent was baptised on 17 May 1747 in Billingshurst and it was
noted in the baptism register that his parents were from Chiltington.
Richard Sargent was baptised on 9 April 1749 in Billingshurst.
William Surgeon was baptised on 21 April 1751 in West
Chiltington. As William Sargeant, a bachelor from
West Chiltington, he may have married Dinah Terry, a
spinster of Thakeham, on 20 June 1782 in Thakeham.
Thomas Surgeon was baptised on 30 December 1753 in Billingshurst
and/or West Chiltington.
Henry Surgeon was baptised on 17 February 1760 in West
Sarah Surgeon was baptised on 16 March 1763 in West
Chiltington. As Sarah Surgent she may have married
James Theare or Thayres on 2 November 1790
in Billingshurst. The witnesses to the marriage were John
Miles and Robert Parsons.
