John SERGENT (c1720-?)

and Mary BLAND (c1720-?)

John Sergent and Mary Bland married on 9 December 1744 in Upper Beeding, Sussex.  Another John Sergeant married Hannah Quinby on 11 January 1744/5 in Itchingfield, Sussex.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

John Sergent's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.

Mary Bland's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  Might she have been born on 2 December 1711 and baptised on 6 January 1711/2 in Henfield, Sussex, the daughter of John Bland and Susan?  However, a Mary Bland married John Bates on 7 June 1736 in Nuthurst, and yet another married William Wilt on 11 July 1749 in Upper Beeding.

John Sergent and Mary Bland had 1 known child and possibly more:

  1. Martha Sargent was baptised on 27 October 1745 in Upper Beeding and buried there on 19 January 1745/6.  Her parents were named as John and Mary in the baptism register and just John in the burial register.

  2. Ann Sergeant married Thomas Soan by licence on 15 December 1766 in Ashington.  She was a spinster of Ashington and he a widower of Washington.  Their marriage licence was issued by the Archdeaconry of Chichester on 13 December 1766 and recorded that they were both over 21 years old and that he was a husbandman.

  3. Hannah Sergeant married John Mansell by banns on 19 May 1777 in Bramber, Sussex.  They were both of Bramber.  A Hannah Sergeant was baptised on 25 February 1753 at St. Nicholas in Brighton, the daughter of Richard Sergeant and Elizabeth Sherlock.

  4. Lucy Serjeant was born about 1756.  She married Thomas Parsons by licence on 6 October 1778 in Warminghurst, Sussex.  She was a spinster and he a bachelor and they were both of Warminghurst.  Their marriage licence was issued by the Archdeaconry of Chichester and recorded that Lucy was a 22 year old spinster and that Thomas was bachelor and married with the consent of John Parsons.  A Lucy Sergeant was baptised on 2 October 1757 at St. Nicholas in Brighton, the daughter of Richard Serjeant and Elizabeth Sherlock.
