John Scutt was the father of my possible 7x Great
was baptised on 12 August 1657 in Pulborough, Sussex.
Might John have been baptised on 20 December 1606 in Pulborough and have
been the son of Thomas Scutt and possibly Mary Mills
who had married on 20
September 1604 in Pulborough?
A John Skutt was buried on 21 October 1673 in Pulborough,
and left a will in 1670 (ref. 26 169).
A couple of months before Thomas was baptised, a Richard Scutt
was baptised in Pulborough and he was also the son of a John Scutt.
Therefore, I am assuming there were two families headed by a John, and the
Pulborough marriage register reveals the following:
and Sarah Perley
married on 20 February 1630/1 in Pulborough. (Sarah died in April
John Scut from Horsham and Rachel Vallar
from Headley, Surrey, married on 24 April 1634 in Pulborough. (I
am assuming they didn't stay in Pulborough.)
John Scutt and Thomasin Andrew married on 27
July 1640 in Pulborough. Thomasine was probably baptised on 13 April
1613 in Pulborough, the daughter of William Hill alias
Andrew and possibly died in 1659.
and Mary Hower
married on 28 April 1643 in Pulborough.
Between them they had the following children:
was baptised on 12 August 1632 in Pulborough.
was baptised on 15 February 1634/5 in Pulborough.
was baptised on 30 March 1637 in Pulborough.
Mary Scutt was baptised on 2 February 1646/7 in
was baptised on 31 August 1649 in Pulborough.
was baptised on 21 October 1651 in Pulborough.
was baptised on 12 June 1657 in Pulborough. (He named a son
Andrew. Was that after his mother's maiden name?)
was baptised on 12 August 1657 in Pulborough. (Might his
mother have been Mary? Or might he have been the son of
and Denise of Storrington?)
was baptised on 8 December 1659 in Pulborough. (As Thomasin
seems to have died in January 1659, was his mother Mary?)
The burial register records:
Sarah wife of John Scutt was buried on
29 April 1640 in Pulborough.
Mary daughter of
John Scutt was buried on 14 August 1640 in Pulborough.
Thomasin wife of William Scutt was buried
on 6 January 1658/9 in Pulborough. (I'm wondering if she was the wife
of John rather than William. The Sussex marriage index doesn't include
a William to Thomasin marriage.)
Mary Scutt was buried on 22 January 1687/8 in Pulborough.
John Scutt from Mare Hill was buried on 15 November 1714 in
Pulborough. He seems to have left a will, which at some point I will
