Thomas SAYERS (c1560-?)

and unknown (?-?)

Thomas Sayers may have been my 11x Great Grandfather.  He may have married in the 1580's in the Pulborough, Sussex area.  His date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  A John Sayers of Chiltington left a will in 1611 (as per a deposition book, ref. Ep/I/11/11).

Thomas Sayers may have had some of the following children:

  1. William Sayers was baptised on 20 September 1588 in Pulborough.  Only his father's name was recorded in the baptism register.

  2. Eleanor Saires may have been a daughter of Thomas.  She married Thomas Stere of Rusper on 18 August 1600 in Billingshurst, Sussex.

  3. John Sayers may have been a son of Thomas.  He married Mary Wells on 29 October 1604 in Pulborough.

  4. Margaret Sayers may have been a daughter of Thomas.  She married John Hill alias Andrew on 23 September 1609 in Pulborough.  Between May 1607 and June 1611 she may have been aged about 23 years and of West Chiltington, where she was born (as per a deposition book, ref. Ep/I/11/11).

  5. Robert Sayers may have been a son of Thomas.  He married Elizabeth Erlye on 7 August 1609 in West Chiltington, Sussex.

  6. Edmund Sayers, my 10x Great Grandfather, may have been a son of Thomas.  He married Sarah Wells in 1609.  (They have their own page.)

  7. Alice Sayers may have been a daughter of Thomas.  She married Edward Coop on 4 November 1610 in Pulborough.

  8. Ann Sayers may have been a daughter of Thomas.  She married John Lucas on 4 July 1614 in Pulborough.

  9. Thomas Sayers may have been a son Thomas.  However, he may have the Thomas Sayers mentioned a good friend in the 1648 will of Edmund Sayers (above), in which case it would seem unlikely they were brothers.  He may have married Isabel Barnard on 27 April 1615 in West Chiltington, and they may have been the parents of:

    1. Thomas Sayers married before or about 1638 and had the following child:

      1. Thomas Sayers was baptised on 10 March 1638/9 in Pulborough.  He married Mary Stenning in 1666.  (They have their own page.)

William Sayers of Chiltington, husbandman where he had lived about 10 months, and before at Cowfold for about 13 years, and before at Chiltington where he was born.  Aged about 34 years.  (As per a deposition book, ref. Ep/I/11/11, May 1607 to June 1611.)

Thomas Sayers of Steyning, Tailor, where he have lived about 4 years.  (As per a deposition book, ref. Ep/I/11/20, Decembet 1688 to April 1692.)

Capital messuage, tenement and fee farm lands called Lighes Land and Crowcheland at Hadfoldeshearne in Billingshurst and Pulborough, now or late in occ. of Thomas Clares, and a plot of land lately purchased of John Sayers.  (Ref. Lavington/194,195 - date:  5 October 1586.)
