The Will of
Edmund SAYERS
(1624-1702)

In the name of God Amen I EDMUND SAYERS th'Elder of
PULBOROUGH in the County of Sussex yeoman being aged & weake in body but of
sound & perfect mind & memory thanks be to Almighty God for the same calling
to mind the uncertaine State of this This Transitory life that All Flesh
must yeild unto death when it shall please god to call Doe make & ordaine
this my last will & Testament in manner & Forme Following Imprimis I
bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God trusting in & through the
merrits of Jesus Christ my only saviour and redeemer & my body to the ground
to be decently interred at the discrecon of my Executor hereafter named Item
I give & bequeath unto my son THOMAS SAYRES the Full sum of
One Hundred pounds upon Condicion that he pay unto my Executor the Fifty
pounds I lent unto him but if he shall refuse to pay unto him the said
Fifty pounds lent That then I give & bequeath unto my said son
THOMAS SAYRES but Fifty pounds to be paid unto him of lawfull money
by my Executor within Three months after my decease Item I Give & bequeath
unto the Five Children of my son THOMAS SAYRES now borne
unto him by SUSAN his First wife (viz. EDWARD,
THOMAS, EDMOND, JOHN &
ANN the full sum of Five & Twenty pounds to be paid into
the hands of their Father THOMAS SAYRES within Twelve months after my
decease & he to give under his hand a discharge for the same & likewise that
he will lett and put out the same Five & Twenty pounds to interest for the
best use & benefit of my said Five Grandchildren aforenamed until they shall
all attaine to the age of One & Twenty And then that he will well & truly &
carefully pay or cause to be paid unto the said Five Children the said
Twenty Five pounds afore given together with the use Interest & profitts
that shall arise and be made thereof equally divided amongst them And my
will & meaning is that if any of them said Five Children shall happen to dye
before their part or portcion of money is divided & paid to them that then
the part or porcion of money of him her or them soe dyeing shall be paid to
the Survivors of them& to be equally divided amongst them And my will is
that my son THOMAS at the Receiving of the said Twenty Five
pounds Doe give bond to my Executor for the true payment thereof together
with the Interest & profitt that shall arise & be made thereof unto his
said Children aforenamed according to the direccions of this my Will And
lastly all the rest reasidue & remainder of my Goods & chattells & personall
estate whatsoever & wheresoever to be found I doe give & bequeath unto my
son EDMOND SAYRES And alsoe I doe here make constitute &
appoint my said son EDMOND SAYRES Sole Executor of this my
Last Will & Testament Revoaking & makeing null & void all former Wills by me
heretofore at any time made Soe the Lord be mercifull to me a Sinner In
witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand & seal This Twentieth day of
MARCH Annoque Domini 1699 EDMOND SAYRES Signed sealed
declared & published as his last Will & Testament in the presence of us
