and Ann Skriven
were my 10x Great Grandparents. (Click
see their place in my pedigree chart.) They married on 24 December
1599 in Lindfield, Sussex. Previously as William Sayer
he had married Alice Hesman on 16 January 1595/6 in
William Sayer may have been born in Lindfield in about
1570 and he may have been the son of
(c1530-1571) and Christian.
Unfortunately the Lindfield baptisms from 1567-79 are missing.
William Sayers was buried on 10 October 1613 in Lindfield. He
was most probably a blacksmith.
Alice Heasman's date and place of birth/baptism are
unknown, to me. She was buried on 13 November 1597 in Lindfield.
The burial register noted that she was the wife of William Sayer.
Ann Skriven may have also been born in Lindfield. She
may have been the daughter of John Scriven or
Richard Scriven or Thomas Screven who all had
children baptised in Lindfield between 1560-67. Ann Sayers widow was buried on 23 May 1633 in Lindfield.
She left a will dated 21 May 1633 and proved at Lewes on 19 June 1633 (I haven't yet read this document).
William Sawer and Alice Heasman had 1 known son:
William Sawyer was baptised on 11 November 1597 in
Lindfield. He may have been the William Sayers,
blacksmith who was buried on 19 February 1670/1 in Lindfield.
William Saires may have married Joan Borte
on 23 August 1632 in Slaugham, Sussex.
William and Joane had the following children:
Ann Sayers was baptised on 29 June 1634 in Lindfield.
Joane Sayers was baptised on 18 March 1637/8 in

Skriven had 3 known children:
Dorothye Sayer was baptised on 19 October 1600 in Lindfield.
Dorothy wife of William Tab was buried on 3 July 1627
in Lindfield. She had married William Tab
on 20 November 1626 in Lindfield. William Tabb,
blacksmith of Lindfield left a will in 1636.
John Sayer was baptised on 3 October 1602 in Lindfield.
He was buried on 9 January 1657/8 in Lindfield. The burial
register recorded that he was John Sayer of the Town.
John left a will which was proved on 7 May 1658.
As John Sayers he married Jane Isted by
licence on 15 September 1636 in Lindfield. Their marriage licence
was issued in the South Malling Peculiar on 10 September 1636. It
recorded that John was a yeoman and Jane a spinster and they were both
of Lindfield. Surety for the licence was provided by John himself
and Robert Muzall a clothworker from Lindfield.
Jayne was buried as a widow on 26 September 1665 in Lindfield.
John and Jane had the following children:
John Sayers was baptised on 22 February 1637/8 in
Thomas Sayers was baptised on 19 April 1640 in
Susan Sayers was baptised on 13 March 1641/2 in
Lindfield. She married Thomas Blackston on 6
November 1666 in Lindfield.
John Sayers was baptised on 14 October 1649 in
Lindfield and buried there on 30 October 1650.
Sarah Sayers was born on 30 August 1654 and
baptised at Mr. Bulls on 22 September 1654 in Lindfield.
Richard Sayer was baptised on 16 December 1604 in Lindfield.
He married Ann Parsson
in 1632. (They have their own page.)
Anne Sawers was baptised on 21 January 1609/10 in
Lindfield. She married John Powlter on 4 February
1635/6 in Lindfield.
Thomas Sayers was baptised on 8 March 1611/12 in
Thomas Sayers married Ann Teage on 28
November 1633 in Lindfield.
Ann was buried on 10 April 1675 in Lindfield.
Thomas and Ann had the following children:
William Sayers was baptised on 31 August 1634 in
Thomas Sayers was baptised on 6 March 1635/6 in
John Sayers was baptised on 8 October 1638 in Lindfield.
Thomas Sayers was baptised on 19 April 1640 in
Francis Sayers was baptised on 5 September 1641 in
Unity Sayers was baptised on 12 November 1648 in
Lindfield. A Unity Sayers married Edward
Flint on 31 May 1685 in Ardingly.
