William SAWER (c1570-1613)

and Ann SKRIVEN (c1575-1633)

William Sawer and Ann Skriven were my 10x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)  They married on 24 December 1599 in Lindfield, Sussex.  Previously as William Sayer he had married Alice Hesman on 16 January 1595/6 in Lindfield.

William Sayer may have been born in Lindfield in about 1570 and he may have been the son of Richard Sayer (c1530-1571) and Christian.  Unfortunately the Lindfield baptisms from 1567-79 are missing.  William Sayers was buried on 10 October 1613 in Lindfield.  He was most probably a blacksmith.

Alice Heasman's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  She was buried on 13 November 1597 in Lindfield.  The burial register noted that she was the wife of William Sayer.

Ann Skriven may have also been born in Lindfield.  She may have been the daughter of John Scriven or Richard Scriven or Thomas Screven who all had children baptised in Lindfield between 1560-67.  Ann Sayers widow was buried on 23 May 1633 in Lindfield.  She left a will dated 21 May 1633 and proved at Lewes on 19 June 1633 (I haven't yet read this document).

As John Sayers he married Jane Isted by licence on 15 September 1636 in Lindfield.  Their marriage licence was issued in the South Malling Peculiar on 10 September 1636.  It recorded that John was a yeoman and Jane a spinster and they were both of Lindfield.  Surety for the licence was provided by John himself and Robert Muzall a clothworker from Lindfield.
