Stephen Sawyer and Lucy Campbell
married by licence on 21 July 1768 in East Grinstead, Sussex. Their
marriage licence was issued on 9 May 1768 by the Archdeaconry of Lewes which
noted that they were both aged 23 years and upwards and both of East
Grinstead. Stephen was a bachelor and draper, and Lucy a spinster.
(They were not my direct ancestors.)

Grinstead, Sussex. He was the son of John Sawyer and
Lucy Campbell was baptised on 11 April 1742 in East
Grinstead, Sussex. She was the daughter of John Campbell
Stephen Sawyer and Lucy Campbell had 4 known children:

She married married George Bassett
Funnell on 21 October 1822 in Maresfield, Sussex. When the
1851 census was recorded the couple were living in Park Street, Tunbridge
Wells, Kent. George was then a 47 year old wheelwright and gave his
place of birth as Buxted, Sussex. Priscilla was 53 and said she was
born in Fletching, Sussex. With them were 2 of their children, namely,
20 year old labourer Thomas Funnell born in Maresfield, and
15 year old labourer Charles Funnell
born in Buxted.
