Stephen SAWYER (1742-?)

and Lucy CAMPBELL (1742-?)

 

Stephen Sawyer and Lucy Campbell married by licence on 21 July 1768 in East Grinstead, Sussex.  Their marriage licence was issued on 9 May 1768 by the Archdeaconry of Lewes which noted that they were both aged 23 years and upwards and both of East Grinstead.  Stephen was a bachelor and draper, and Lucy a spinster.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

Stephen Sawyer was baptised on 18 January 1742 in East Grinstead, Sussex.  He was the son of John Sawyer and Elizabeth Prinn.

Lucy Campbell was baptised on 11 April 1742 in East Grinstead, Sussex.  She was the daughter of John Campbell and Anne.

 

Stephen Sawyer and Lucy Campbell had 4 known children:

  1. John Sawyer was baptised on 8 October 1768 in East Grinstead.

  2. Stephen Sawyer was baptised on 29 June 1770 in East Grinstead.

  3. Elizabeth Sawyer was baptised on 28 February 1773 in East Grinstead.

  4. Mary Sawyer was baptised on 22 February 1775 in East Grinstead.

    Did she marry William Wilding on 14 October 1798 in Maresfield, Sussex?  And were they the parents of:

    1. Priscilla Wilden Sawyers was born about 1798.  She married married George Bassett Funnell on 21 October 1822 in Maresfield, Sussex.  When the 1851 census was recorded the couple were living in Park Street, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.  George was then a 47 year old wheelwright and gave his place of birth as Buxted, Sussex.  Priscilla was 53 and said she was born in Fletching, Sussex.  With them were 2 of their children, namely, 20 year old labourer Thomas Funnell born in Maresfield, and 15 year old labourer Charles Funnell born in Buxted.
