Richard SAYARS (1604-1665)

and Ann PARSON (1613-?)

Richard Sayars and Ann Parsson were my 9x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)  They married on 4 September 1632 in Lindfield, Sussex.

Richard Sayer was baptised on 16 December 1604 in Lindfield.  He was the son of William Sayer (c1570-1613)and Ann Skriven (c1575-1633).  He was buried on 12 December 1665 in Lindfield.

Ann Parson was baptised on 29 August 1613 in Lindfield.  She was the daughter of Francis Parsons and Agnes Warde.  An Ann Saires was buried on 24 July 1688 in Lindfield, but her husband also had a sister-in-law by the same name.

Richard Sayars and Ann Parson had 11 known children:

  1. John Sayers was baptised on 29 September 1633 in Lindfield.

  2. Mary Sayers was baptised on 12 May 1636 in Lindfield.

  3. Richard Sayers was baptised on 7 October 1638 in Lindfield.

  4. William Sayers was baptised on 19 February 1640/1 in Lindfield.  He died in 1711 leaving a will in which he mentioned his wife Mary and brother Walter Sawyers of Ardingly.  William was then of Fletching.  William and Mary don't appear to have had any children.  Mary was alive in 1728 and mentioned in her brother-in-law Walter's will.  Walter directed that his nephew Walter, son of Edward, should provide for Mary.

  5. Walter Sayers was baptised on 19 February 1640/1 in Lindfield.  He died in 1728 and left a will.

  6. Ann Sayers was baptised on 10 January 1643/4 in Lindfield.  Her son John Burtenshaw was mentioned in her brother Walter's will, therefore, I assume she married a Burtenshaw.  The only possible entry in the Sussex marriage index is of a Ann [blank] and Edward Burtenshaw in June 1672 in Horsted Keynes.

  7. Edward Sayers, my 8x Great Grandfather, was mentioned as deceased in his brother Walter's will of 1728.  Edward married Mary Scrase in 1675.  (They have their own page.)

  8. Thomas Sayers was baptised on 30 September 1649 and buried there on 23 March 1649/50.

  9. Abraham Sayers was baptised on 25 February 1650/1 in Lindfield.

    Abraham may have married Ann.

Abraham and Ann had the following children:

    1. Abraham Sayers was baptised on 26 June 1675 in Lindfield.  A marriage licence was issued on 23 February 1696/7 by the Archdeaconry of Lewes to Abraham Sayers and Mary Burt.  She was a spinster and they were both of Wivelsfield.  Surety for the licence was provided by Abraham himself and Richard Long of Chailey.  Abraham Sawyers of Wivelsfield married Mary Burt on 24 February 1696/7 in Chailey.

    2. Ann Sawyers was baptised on 3 October 1677 in Lindfield.  She may have been the unnamed daughter of Abraham mentioned in his brother Walter's 1728 will.

Abraham seems to have had a relationship with Elizabeth Burgett:

    1. Abraham Burgett or Sawyers was baptised on 17 June 1677 in Lindfield as the illegitimate son of Abraham Sawyers and Elizabeth Burgett.

  10. Isaac Sayers was born on 11 December 1653 and baptised on 5 January 1653/4 in Lindfield.  He was buried on 9 January 1657/8 in Lindfield.

  11. Judeth Sayers was born on 2 May 1656 and baptised on 26 May 1656 in Lindfield.

Judith married William Beard by licence on 22 June 1675 in Lindfield.

William and Judith had the following child:

    1. Edward Baird was baptised on 17 Janaury 1676/7 in Lindfield.
