Edward SA(W)YERS
(c1645-1711)
and Mary SCRACE (c1650-?)

Edward Sayars
and Mary Scrace
were my 8x Great Grandparents. (Click
here to
see their place in my pedigree chart.) They married on 11 February
1674/5 in Horsted Keynes, Sussex.
Edward Sa(w)yers
was mentioned as deceased in his brother Walter Sayers will
of 1728. Walter was baptised in Lindfield, Sussex in 1641 and was the son of
Richard Sayers
(1604-1665) and Ann
Parsson. Edward was most probably also born in Lindfield
and his baptism may have taken place between 1644 and 1647, when there is a
gap in the registers. Edward was buried on 1 July 1711 in Lindfield.
Mary Scrace’s
date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me. Might she have
been baptised on 18 October 1649 in Westmeston, Sussex and have been the
daughter of John Scrase? However, another
Mary Scrace married John Allexsander on 9 November
1670 in Cuckfield, Sussex, and yet another Mary Scrace
married William Godly on 5 July 1677 in Horsted Keynes.
.Edward Sa(w)yers and
Mary Scrace had 6 known children:
-
William Sawyer
was baptised on 21 December 1675 in
Lindfield.
-
Ann Saires was baptised on 16 December 1681 in Lindfield.
-
Edward Sawyer was baptised on 30 January 1687/8 in Lindfield.
-
Walter Sawyers,
my 7x Great Grandfather, was baptised on 21 May 1691 in Lindfield.
He married Catherine in about 1725. (They have
their own page.)
-
A daughter (her uncle Walter Sayers who died in 1728
mentioned that his nephew Walter had 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
-
Jane Sayers was buried on 24
April 1700 in Lindfield (as per a transcript of the Lindfield
registers).
