couple were living alone at 4 Providence Place in Hove, they were both then
81 years old and Thomas was a retired farmer. He then gave his place
of birth as Rottingdean.

Sarah Rolff may have been part of this family. She was born
about 1794.
Sarah married Jasper Still by banns on 19 October 1816 in Hove.
She was then a spinster and he a bachelor and they were both of Hove.
When the 1841 census was recorded the couple and 2 children were living in
Portslade village and Jasper was a 45 year old agricultural labourer.
Sarah was then 47 years old.
In 1851, Jasper and his son Ezekiel
were living in Portslade. Jasper was then 55 years old and gave his
place of birth as Bolney, Sussex.

Walter Still was baptised on 13 April 1823 in Portslade.

Mary Still was baptised on 18 February 1825 in Portslade.
She was 17 year old in 1841 and living with her parents.

Ezekiel Still was baptised on 29 July 1827 in Portslade. In
1841 he was a 14 year old agricultural labourer living at home. He
was an unmarried 22 year old gardener in 1851.

John Roffe was baptised on 10 December 1797 in Patcham.

William Roffe was baptised on 10 December 1797 in Patcham.

Richard Rolf was born about 1801 in Patcham.
Richard married Ann Hibbins on 21 June 1823 in Brighton, Sussex.
Richard and Ann had the following children:

Louisa Rolf was baptised on 23 January 1825 in Brighton.

Barbara Rolf was baptised on 5 February 1826 in Brighton.

Barbara Rolf was born about 1803 in Patcham.
As Barbara Rolf she married Job King on 3 June 1835 in
Brighton. He was then a bachelor and she a spinster and they were
both of Brighton. When the 1841 census was recorded, 37 year old
Barbara was living with her parents in Hove.

Lueza Roff (Lousia) was baptised on 9 March 1806 in Patcham.

Eliza Rolf was baptised on 3 July 1808 in Hove. She married
Thomas Pumphrey

Caroline Rooff was baptised on 6 May 1810 in Hove. She died
aged 73 years and her death was registered as Caroline Simmons
in the second quarter of 1883 in the Brighton registration district.
As Caroline Rolf she married George Simmons by banns on 20 April 1833
in Brighton. He was then a bachelor and she a spinster and they were
both of Brighton.
George was born about 1811 in Portslade, Sussex and was the son of
Henry Simmons and Amelia.
In 1841 the couple and their 2 young daughters were living in Adelaide
Crescent, Hove. George was then a gardener.
When the 1851 census was recorded the couple and their 2 daughters (Maria
and Emma) were living at 13 Adelaide Crescent in Hove. George and
Caroline were both said to be 40 years old and he was a gardener.
He gave his place of birth as Portslade and she as Hove.
In 1881 the couple were living at 22 Temple Street, Brighton. George
was a 69 year old gardener and Caroline was 70. Also sharing the
property was the family of George Horsecroft.
George and Caroline had the following known children:

Maria Simmons was born about 1834 in Hove. In 1841 she was
7 years old and living with her maternal grandparents. In 1851 she
was a 17 year old upholsteress.
Maria married John Pannett.
John was born about 1829 in Brighton and was the son of John
Pannett and Mary Short.
