Reuben ROBINSON (1767-1853)

and Elizabeth GUILE (c1767-1827)

 

Reuben Robinson and Elizabeth Guile married on 26 April 1789 in Billingshurst, Sussex.  They were both of Billingshurst.  The witnesses to their marriage were John Champion and Foice Champion.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

Reuben Roberson was baptised on 8 March 1767 in Billingshurst.  He was the son of John Roberson and Jane.  Reuben died aged 86 years in the Union House and was buried on 25 January 1853 in Billingshurst.

Elizabeth Guile may have been baptised on baptised on 8 February 1771 in Billingshurst and have been the daughter of Judith Guile (1738-?).  Elizabeth may have died aged 60 years and have been buried on 29 October 1827 in Billingshurst, Sussex, if so she was born about 1767.

When the 1841 census was recorded, Reuben was said to be a 75 year old agricultural labourer and he was living at Rosergate, Billingshurst, along with 40 year old Sarah Miles.

 

Reuben Robinson and Elizabeth had 6 known children:

  1. Reuben Robinson was baptised on 18 February 1795 in Billingshurst.

  2. Samuel Robinson was baptised on 18 February 1795 in Billingshurst.

    Samuel married Mary Meares by banns on 20 April 1817 in Slinfold, Sussex.  He was a bachelor and she a spinster and they were both of Slinfold.  The witnesses to their marriage were Reuben Robinson, Charlotte Wood, Elizabeth Meares and John Patching.

    Samuel and Mary had the following children:

    1. John Robinson was baptised on 16 November 1817 in Shipley.  The baptism register noted his father was a labourer.

    2. Mary Robinson was baptised on 7 February 1819 in Billingshurst.  The baptism register noted her father was a labourer.  She died aged 12 weeks and was buried on 15 April 1819 in Billingshurst.

    3. Ann Robinson was baptised on 27 February 1820 in Billingshurst.  The baptism register noted her father was a labourer.  Ann had the following child:

      1. Oliver Robinson was baptised on 1 December 1839 in Billingshurst.  The baptism register noted his mother was a servant.

    4. Thomas Robinson was baptised on 25 November 1821 in Billingshurst.  The baptism register noted that his father was a labourer.

    5. Harriet Robinson was baptised on 7 December 1823 in Billingshurst.  The baptism register noted her father was a labourer.  She died age 1 year and 7 months and was buried on 10 May 1825 in Billingshurst.

    6. Caroline Robinson was baptised on 14 August 1825 in Billingshurst.  The baptism register noted her father was a labourer.

    7. Samuel Robinson was baptised on 6 May 1827 in Billingshurst.  The baptism register noted his father was a labourer.

    8. Eliza Robinson was baptised on 29 March 1829 in Billingshurst.  The baptism register noted her father was a labourer.

    9. Emily Robinson was baptised on 2 September 1832 in Billingshurst.  The baptism register noted her father was a labourer.

    10. Ellen Robinson was baptised on 17 May 1835 in Billingshurst.  The baptism register noted her father was a labourer.

    11. Reuben Robinson was baptised on 18 June 1837 in Billingshurst.  The baptism register noted his father was a labourer.

  3. Sarah Robinson was baptised in November 1797 in Billingshurst.

  4. Sarah Robinson was baptised on 8 August 1802 in Billingshurst.

  5. Rhoda Robinson was baptised on 30 June 1805 in Billingshurst.

  6. Job Robinson was baptised on 11 January 1813 in Billingshurst.  The baptism register noted that his father was a labourer.  Job died aged 26 years and was buried on 31 July 1837 in Billingshurst.

    Job married Louisa Chandler by banns on 15 May 1832 in Billingshurst.  He was a bachelor and she a spinster.  The witnesses to their marriage were John Chandler and Henry Turner.  As a widow, Louisa married William Robinson in 1845.
