Norman ROBINSON (1889-1951)

and Ellen Josephine BALCOMBE (1893-1957)

 

Norman Robinson and Helen Josephine Balcombe married in the third quarter of 1912 in the Tonbridge registration district.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

Norman Robinson was born in the first quarter of 1889 in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.  He was the son of George James Robinson (1864-?) and Helen Eliza Francis (c1865-?).  He died aged 62 years and his death was registered in the first quarter of 1951 in Brighton, Sussex.  At the time of the 1891 census he was 2 years old.  In 1901 he was 12 years old.

Ellen Josephine Balcombe was born in the fourth quarter of 1893 in the Tonbridge registration district.  She died aged 64 years and her death was registered in the fourth quarter of 1957 in Brighton, as Helen J. Robinson.

The 1901 census appears to have recorded Ellen/Helen as 7 year old Nellie Baldcombe, living at 43 Park Street, Tunbridge Wells with her parents John and Nellie Baldcombe.  Her father was a 29 year old fish hawker from Wadhurst, Sussex and her mother was 28 and from Sevenoaks, Kent.  Her siblings were 9 year old William and 4 year old Annie.  All 3 children were born in Tunbridge Wells.  (When the 1891 census was recorded, John Balcombe was said to have been an unmarried 23 year old hawker from Ticehurst, Sussex and he was living at 27 Park Street, Tunbridge Wells.  A search of the web came up with discussion at RootsChat which would suggest Nellie and Ellen Josephine were one and the same.  It goes onto say John was buried on 8 February 1908 aged 41, therefore, born about 1867.)

 

Norman Robinson and Ellen Josephine Balcombe had 7 children:

  1. Ronald F. T. Robinson was born in 1912 in Tunbridge Wells.

  2. Josephine S. Robinson was born in 1918 in Tunbridge Wells.

  3. Lionel Norman Robinson was born on 22 January 1920 in Eastbourne.  He died in July 2002.

  4. Muriel S. Robinson was born in 1921 in Eastbourne.

  5. Pauline Robinson was born in 1922 in Eastbourne.

  6. Gladys Robinson was born in 1923 in Eastbourne.

  7. Norman Robinson was born in 1924 in Eastbourne.  He is known as Rob.

    Rob married Barbara Olive Tullett in 1953.

    Barbara was born in 1929 and is the daughter of Thomas William Tullett (1891-1956) and Annie Elsie Stillaway (1898-1985).
