George James Robinson was born in the fourth quarter of
1864 in Hastings, Sussex. He was the son of
(1825-1901) and Ann Amelia
Scott (c1831-?). The 1871 census
recorded his name as Geo. Edw.
Robinson and noted that he was a 6 year old scholar, born in
Helen Eliza Francis was born about 1865 in East Grinstead
or Lewes, Sussex.
At the time of the 1891 census George and Ellen, together with their 3
children, were living at 2 Birch Street, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. They
were both 26 years old. George was a shoemaker and gave his
place of birth as Hastings, whilst Ellen said she had been born in East
When the 1901 census was recorded the couple and 3 children were living at
37 Newcomen Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. George and Ellen were both 36
years and he was a bootmaker. He gave his place of birth as Hastings
and she as Lewes.
George James Robinson and Helen Eliza Francis had
3 known children:
Edith Snowdrop Robinson was born in the first quarter of
1888 in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. When the 1891 census was recorded
she was 3 years old. In 1901 she was 13 years old and living at
home with her parents.
Norman Robinson was born in the first quarter of 1889 in
Tunbridge Wells. At the time of the 1891 census he was 2 years
old. In 1901 he was 12 years old. Norman married
Helen Josephine Balcombe in 1912. (They have
their own page.)
Harold George Robinson was born in the second quarter of
1890 in Tunbridge Wells. When the 1891 census was recorded he was
11 months old. He was 10 years old in 1901.
