George James ROBINSON (1864-?)

and Helen Eliza FRANCIS (c1865-?)

George James Robinson and Helen Eliza Francis married in the fourth quarter of 1887 in the Tonbridge, Kent registration district.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

George James Robinson was born in the fourth quarter of 1864 in Hastings, Sussex.  He was the son of Frederick Robinson (1825-1901) and Ann Amelia Scott (c1831-?).  The 1871 census recorded his name as Geo. Edw. Robinson and noted that he was a 6 year old scholar, born in Hastings.

Helen Eliza Francis was born about 1865 in East Grinstead or Lewes, Sussex.

At the time of the 1891 census George and Ellen, together with their 3 children, were living at 2 Birch Street, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.  They were both 26 years old.  George was a  shoemaker and gave his place of birth as Hastings, whilst Ellen said she had been born in East Grinstead.

When the 1901 census was recorded the couple and 3 children were living at 37 Newcomen Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.  George and Ellen were both 36 years and he was a bootmaker.  He gave his place of birth as Hastings and she as Lewes.

George James Robinson and Helen Eliza Francis had 3 known children:

  1. Edith Snowdrop Robinson was born in the first quarter of 1888 in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.  When the 1891 census was recorded she was 3 years old.  In 1901 she was 13 years old and living at home with her parents.

  2. Norman Robinson was born in the first quarter of 1889 in Tunbridge Wells.  At the time of the 1891 census he was 2 years old.  In 1901 he was 12 years old.  Norman married Helen Josephine Balcombe in 1912.  (They have their own page.)

  3. Harold George Robinson was born in the second quarter of 1890 in Tunbridge Wells.  When the 1891 census was recorded he was 11 months old.  He was 10 years old in 1901.
