William RICHARDSON (1819-?)

and Sarah TALMAY (1828-?)

 

William Richardson and Sarah Talmay married on 13 February 1848 in Hurstpierpoint, Sussex.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

William Richardson was baptised on 7 November 1819 in Hurstpierpoint, Sussex.  He was the son of Henry Richardson (1785-?) and Susanna.  When the 1841 census was recorded, William was said to have been a 20 year old agricultural labourer and living at Washbrook in Hurstpierpoint, along with Henry Richardson 50, Henry Richardson 15 and Edward Richardson aged 12.  Also with the family was 20 year old agricultural labourer, Johnathon Lewry.

Sarah Talmay was baptised on 13 April 1828 in Hurstpierpoint, Sussex.  She was the daughter of John Talmay and Sarah Geere.

In 1851 the couple together with 2 of their children and William's 67 year old father Henry Richardson and 22 year old brother Edward Richardson, were living in Hurstpierpoint.  William was a 31 year old gardener and Sarah was 23.

When the 1861 census was recorded the couple and their 6 children were living at Washbrook in Hurstpierpoint, along with William's 79 year old widower father, Henry Richardson who gave his place of birth as Hurstpierpoint.  William was then a 40 year old gardener and Sarah was 32.

 

William Richardson and Sarah Talmay had 8 known children:

  1. Sarah Jane Talmay was baptised on 5 March 1848 in Hurstpierpoint.  In the 1851 census she was 3 year old Jane Richardson.  The 1861 census recorded that she was 14 year old Sarah Jane Richardson.

  2. Maria Richardson was baptised on 1 June 1850 in Hurstpierpoint.  In 1851 she was a year old.  She was 11 years old in 1861.

  3. Henry Richardson was baptised on 2 May 1852 in Hurstpierpoint.  He was a 9 year old agricultural labourer in 1861.

  4. Emma Richardson was baptised on 7 May 1854 in Hurstpierpoint.  She was 7 years old in 1861.

  5. Clara Richardson was baptised on 4 May 1856 in Hurstpierpoint.  She was 5 years old in 1861.  She most probably died aged 16 years, as per the burial register, and was buried on 12 July 1871 in Hurstpierpoint.  (I had previously muddled this Clara up with the Clara Richardson baptised in 1854.)

  6. Anne Richardson was 1 August 1858 in Hurstpierpoint.  She was 3 years old in 1861.

  7. John Richardson was baptised on 6 January 1862 in Hurstpierpoint.

  8. James Richardson was baptised on 3 July 1864 in Hurstpierpoint.
