Francis RICHARDSON (1750-1818)

and Susanna KING (c1750-?)

Francis Richardson and Susanna King married on 27 May 1772 in Cuckfield, Sussex  (They were not my direct ancestors.  Francis was the brother of my 5x Great Grandmother, Mary Richardson.)

Francis Richardson was baptised on 11 November 1750 in Bolney, Sussex.  He was the son of Francis Richardson (1706-1760) and Mary (c1710-1753).  He died aged 68 years and was buried on 12 April 1818 in Cuckfield.  The burial register noted that he was from Slaugham.

Susanna King's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.

A Settlement Order was issued on 31 August 1782 in the name of Francis Richardson, married, wife Susan, parish Bolney, other parish Cuckfield.

Francis Richardson and Susanna King had 5 known children:

  1. John Richardson was baptised on 13 September 1772 in Slaugham.

John married Elizabeth Baytupp by licence on 7 June 1805 in Slaugham.  They were both of Slaugham.  The witnesses to their marriage were Henry Richardson and Mary Richardson.

In 1851 the couple were living at Fridays in Slaugham.  John was a 78 year old farmer of 15 acres and Elizabeth was 65.  Their daughter Matilda and her family were living with them.

Elizabeth was baptised on 7 August 1785 in Cowfold and was the daughter of Martha Baytup.  The baptism register noted that she was baseborn and her mother was a pauper.

    1. Matilda Baytup was born about 1805 in Cowfold.

Matilda married Henry Field on 23 July 1822 in Slaugham.

Henry was born about 1798 in Cuckfield.

In 1851 Henry was a 53 year old agricultural labourer and Matilda was 46.  Three of their children were living with them on census night.

Henry and Matilda had the following children:

      1. Francis Field was born about 1823 in Slaugham.  In 1851 he was an unmarried 28 year old cordwainer, living with his parents in the home of his maternal grandparents.

      2. Warren Field was born about 1839 in Preston, Sussex.  He was a 12 year old  scholar in 1851.

      3. Elizabeth Field was born about 1843 in West Grinstead, Sussex.  She was an 8 year old scholar in 1851.

  2. Francis Richardson was baptised on 20 November 1774 in Bolney.

  3. Henry Richardson was baptised on 16 June 1776 in Bolney.  Henry married Mary Everden in 1812.  (They have their own page.)

  4. William Richardson was baptised on 31 May 1778 in Slaugham.

  5. Mary Richardson was baptised on 7 November 1790 in Bolney.
