and Sophia CAMPBELL (c1783-1834)

John Restall and Sophia Campbell married on 20
August 1810 at Saint Mary's in Portsea, Hampshire. John may have
previously had a relationship with
Elizabeth Aylwin
(1785-1865) and they may have been my 4x Great Grandparents. (Click

John Restall was baptised on 4 November 1779 in Trotton,
Sussex. He was the son of
John Restall (1759-1816) and
Jane Jermain
(?-1780). At the time of his baptism his father was described a
John Restall, junior and he was a farmer. John died
aged 73 years and was buried on 11 December 1852 in Trotton. The
burial register noted that he was from Rake.
Sophia Campbell's date and place of birth/baptism are
unknown, to me. As Sophia Restall she died aged 51
years and was buried on 24 June 1834 in Trotton.

Restall Aylwin was baptised on 22 March 1807 in
Treyford cum Didling. He married
Sarah Baxter

John Restall and Sophia Campbell had

John Restall was born on 24 May 1812 and baptised on 22 June 1812 in
Trotton. He married Sarah Patient
in 1841. (They have their own page.)

Robert Restall was baptised on 23 October 1814 in
Trotton.
Robert married Charlotte Porter by banns on 4 February
1845 in Rogate. He was then a bachelor and labourer and she a
spinster. Their fathers were named as John Restall
and William Porter who were both labourers. The
witnesses to their marriage were Henry Porter and
Ann Porter.
Robert and Charlotte had the following children:

Emma Restall was baptised on 28 September 1845 in
Trotton. The baptism register noted that her father was a
labourer from Rogate. She died aged 3 years in Binderton and
was buried on 24 April 1849 in West Dean, Sussex.

Charlotte Restall was baptised on 17 October 1847
in West Dean, at which time her father was a labourer from
Binderton.

John Restall was baptised on 18 February 1849 in
West Dean, at which time his father was a labourer from Binderton.

Albert Restall was baptised on 21 July 1850 in West
Dean, at which time his father was a labourer from Binderton.

William Restall was baptised on 30 May 1852 in West
Dean, at which time his father was a labourer from Binderton.

George Restall was baptised on 23 October 1854 in
West Dean, at which time his father was a labourer from Binderton.

Thomas Restall was baptised on 1 June 1856 in West
Dean, at which time his father was a labourer from Binderton.

Mary Restall was baptised on 27 October 1858 in
West Dean, at which time her father was a labourer from Binderton.
She died aged 2 days in Binderton and was buried on 31 October 1858
in West Dean

Jane Restall was baptised on 4 October 1817 in Trotton,
at which time her father was described as a maltster. She died
aged 40 years and was buried on 8 December 1857 in Rogate as
Jane Chapman de Louth.
Before her marriage she had an illegitimate daughter:

Fanny Georgina Restall was baptised on 21 March
1841 in Trotton. The baptism register noted that her mother
was a single woman from Rogate. When the 1841 census was
recorded she was 4 month old Georgina Restall and
she was living with her mother and maternal grandfather.
The 1851 census records that
she was 10 year old Georginia R. Chapman
and her place of birth was given as Rogate.
Jane married George Chapman de Louth on 31 July 1842 (ref.1).
George Chapman de Louth died aged 42 years and was
buried on 29 October 1857 in Rogate.
When the 1851 census was recorded the couple were both said to be 35
years old and they were living at Comb in Rogate along with their 5
children. George was described as 'Gentleman Hereditary Citizen of
London'. He was born in the parish of St. Georges, Middlesex.
George and Jane had 5 known children:

Raisebroke St. Clair Restall de Louth Chapman de Louth
was born in the third quarter of 1843 and baptised on 4 June 1855 in
Rogate. The 1851 census records that he was 7 year old
Raesbeck L. L. R.
Chapman and his place of birth was given as Wingford Essex.

La Belle Marie Anne Henriette le Clair Restall Chapman
was born in the fourth quarter of 1845 and baptised on 4 June 1855
in Rogate. The 1851 census records that she was 5 year old
Labella Chapman and her place of birth was given as
Rogate.

De Wykeham Robert le'Hutin Boyes Restale de Louth
was born in the first quarter of 1848 and baptised on 4 June 1855 in
Rogate. The 1851 census records that he was 3 year old
Wikeham Chapman and he was born in Rogate. In 1871,
22 year old Robert W. Chapman was
an assistant grocer, living at 1 M??h?? Street in Cambridge.

La Rhennee le Veghonora Jeannette Bestey Restall de Louth
was born in the first quarter of 1850 and baptised on 4 June 1855 in
Rogate. The 1851 census records that La Rhenny Chapman
was a year old and she was born in Rogate.

La la Renommie Georgette Le Clerec Restall du Bois de Lough
was born in the second quarter of 1853 and baptised on 4 June 1855
in Rogate

Thomas Restall was baptised on 24 April 1821 in Trotton,
at which time his father was a maltster. He died aged 25 years in
Rogate and was buried on 14 April 1846 in Trotton.

Charles Restall was baptised on 19 May 1827 in Trotton,
at which time his father was a maltster. He died aged 13 months
and was buried on 4 July 1828 in Trotton.
