John RESTALL
(1759-1816)
and Jane JERMAIN (c1760-1780)
and Sarah (c1762-1848)

John Restall and Jane Jermain
may have been my 5x Great Grandparents. (Click
here to see their
possible place in my pedigree chart.) They married
on 17 May 1779 in Trotton, Sussex. He was a bachelor and she a
spinster. The witnesses to their marriage were Elizabeth
Jermain and Charles Heather. John then married Sarah married sometime before or
about 1786.
John Rustal was baptised on 8 June 1759 in Cocking, Sussex.
He was the son of John Restall
and Elizabeth Faichen. He died aged 57 years and was buried on
25 May 1816 in Trotton. It was noted in the burial register that
he was John Restall, senior.
Jane Jermain's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown,
to me. She was buried on 30 December 1780 in Trotton and it was noted
that she was the wife of John Restall, junior.
Sarah's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.
She died aged 86 years and was buried on 11 July 1848 in Trotton.
John and Sarah were witnesses to the marriage of William Mellersh
and Mary Towers on 17 August 1786 in Trotton.
John Restall yeoman of Trotton leased a cottage, garden and 2 small closes
of land in Bepton at or near Pitsom Gate, on 15 November 1808. Another
deed of the same date gives that John leased a cottage or dwelling house and
garden near Heathland Gate, and a cottage with garden or piece of ground
adjoining, both in the common of Bepton. By 1823 Edmund Sadler
of Bepton was inoccupation of those properties. There is also mention
that the cottage and garden near Heathland Gate was formerly in the
occupation John Restall, senior but not of John
Pearcy, with right to fetch water from spring.
John Restall and
Jane Jermain had 1 known child:

John Restall,
my possible 4x Great Grandfather,
was baptised on 4 November 1779 in Trotton. He married
Sophia Campbell in
1810. (They have their own page.) He may have previously had
a relationship with
Elizabeth Aylwin.
John Restall and Sarah had
10 known children:

Richard Restall was baptised on 9 July 1786 in Trotton.
His mother's name was not recorded in the baptism register. He
died aged 26 years and was buried on 29 March 1813 in Trotton.

Sarah Restall was baptised on 19 March 1788 in Trotton,
at which time her father was described as a yeoman.
Sarah married Henry Ford by licence on
24 July 1817 in Trotton. He was from Trotton. Their marriage
licence was issued on 16 July 1817 by the Archdeaconry of Chichester
which also recorded that she was a 21 year old and upwards spinster of
Trotton several years and he a 21 year old and upwards bachelor and
farmer of Easebourne several days. Surety for the licence was
provided by Henry himself and Robert Restall a farmer
of Trotton.

Elizabeth Restall was baptised on 21 September 1790 in
Trotton, at which time her father was a yeoman. Her mother's name
was not recorded in the baptism register.
Elizabeth married James Meeres married on 2 June 1818 in
Trotton. He was from Steep. Their marriage licence was
issued on 20 May 1818 by the Archdeaconry of Chichester which also
recorded that she was a 21 year old and upwards spinster of Trotton
several years and he a 21 year old and upwards miller from Steep.
Surety for their licence was provided by James himself and
Robert Restall a farmer of Trotton.

Robert Restall was baptised on 25 October 1792 in Trotton,
at which time his father was a yoeman. His mother's name was not
recorded in the baptism register. He died aged 67 years, as per
the burial register, and was buried on 23 March 1861 in Trotton.
Robert married Jane.
Jane died aged 78 years and was buried on 17 March 1877 in Trotton.
Robert and Jane had the following children:

Robert Restall was born on 14 October 1826 and baptised
on 20 October 1826 in Trotton. The baptism register noted that his
father was a farmer.

James John Restall was baptised on 25 February 1829 in
Trotton, at which time his father was a farmer. He died aged 44
years and was buried on 20 December 1873 in Trotton.

Mary Jane Restall was baptised on 14 June 1831 in
Trotton, at which time her father was a farmer.

Charlotte Restall was baptised on 3 September 1833 in
Trotton, at which time her father was a farmer.

Emily Restall was baptised on 3 November 1835 in
Trotton, at which time her father was a farmer.

Frederick Restall was baptised on 5 November 1837 in
Trotton, at which time his father was a farmer.

Ellen Restall was baptised on 2 August 1840 in Trotton,
at which time her father was farmer.
Ellen married
George Lambert on 15 October 1861 in Trotton. George was
then a bachelor and upholsterer from Lambeth and Ellen was a minor and
spinster. Their fathers were named as James Lambert
an upholsterer and Robert Restall a tanner. The
witnesses to their marriage were Robert Restall,
Thomas Lemon and Frank Restall.

Frank Restall was baptised on 25 October 1842 in
Trotton, at which time his father was farmer.

Mary Restall was baptised on 30 November 1795 in Trotton,
at which time her father was a yeoman. Her mother's name was not
recorded in the baptism register.

Charlotte Restall was baptised on 10 August 1797 in
Trotton.
Charlotte married
Thomas Baker by licence on 26 December 1821 in Trotton.
He was from Petersfield, Hampshire. The witnesses to their
marriage were Mary Restall and Mary Parsons.

Harriet Restall was baptised on 7 February 1801 in
Trotton.

Emma Restall was baptised on 29 March 1803 in Trotton.

Sophia Restall was born on 22 May 1805 and baptised on 23
October 1809 in Trotton. The baptism register recorded her
mother's name as Sarah.
Sophia married John Hipkin by licence on 22 September
1842 in Trotton. He was then a widower and yeoman from Singleton.
She was a spinster. Their fathers were named as William
Hipkin and John Restall who were both farmers.
The witnesses to their marriage were Charlotte Baker
and ??? Baker.

Charles Restall was baptised on 23 October 1809 in
Trotton.
