Robert RENVILL (1749-1831)

and Elizabeth JEFFERY (1754-?)

Robert Renvill and Elizabeth Jeffery married by banns on 12 January 1781 in Wivelsfield, Sussex.  They were both then of Wivelsfield.  (They were not my direct ancestors.  Their daughter Mary married the brother of my 3x great grandfather.)

Robert Renfield was baptised on 5 November 1749 in Wivelsfield.  He was the son of Thomas Renvill (1708-1785) and Jane Exeter (?-1780).  Robert left a will dated 29 August 1827 and proved on 9 June 1831, in which he mentioned his wife and 3 daughters.

Elizabeth Jeffries was baptised on 1 December 1754 in Wivelsfield.  She was the daughter of John Jeofry and Mary Heath.

Robert Renvill and Elizabeth Jeffery had 3 known children:

  1. Elizabeth Renvill was baptised on 27 January 1782 in Wivelsfield.

Elizabeth married William Mills by licence on 30 June 1806 in Wivelsfield.  Their marriage licence was issued on 28 June 1806 by the Archdeaconry of Lewes and it recorded that Elizabeth was a 24 year old spinster and William a 19 year old blacksmith who married with the consent of Timothy Mills.  They were both then of Wivelsfield.

Elizabeth was a widow of Brighton when her father made his will in 1827.

  2. Mary Renvil was baptised on 16 May 1784 in Wivelsfield.  Mary married Charles Dowlen in 1812.  (They have their own page.)

  3. Susanna Renvill was baptised on 2 November 1788 in Wivelsfield.  She did not marry.  When the 1841 census was recorded she was living with the family of her sister Mary.
