William REEVE (c1635-1690)

and Sarah GEALE (1637-1713)

William Reeve and Sarah Geale were my 9x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)  They married on 12 May 1659 at the parish church of Holy Trinity in Cuckfield, Sussex.

William Reeve's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  He was buried on 23 November 1690 in Hurstpierpoint, Sussex.  He was a yeoman and left a will.  His mother may have been Elizabeth as it is believed she was mentioned in William's brother's will.  He had 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Sara Geale was baptised on 29 October 1637 in Cuckfield.  She was the daughter of John Geale (c1600-?) and Sarah Brocket (1609-?).  She was buried on 3 November 1713 in Hurstpierpoint.  Sarah left a will.

William Reeve and Sarah Geale had 6 known children:

1. Sarah Reeve was born on 17 March 1658/9 and baptised on 1 April 1660 in Hurstpierpoint, Sussex.  Her parents were named in baptism register as William and Sarah.  She was buried on 17 April 1692 in Albourne, Sussex.

   As a spinster she married Nathaniel Gilham by licence dated 22 September 1679.  They were both then of Hurstpierpoint.  Nathaniel Gyllam next married Elizabeth Isted on 29 October 1696 in Albourne.

   Nathaniel was probably buried in Albourne on 12 November 1727.

2. Samuell Reeve was born on 4 January and baptised and buried on 7 January 1660/1 in Hurstpierpoint.  Only his father's name was recorded against his baptism.

3. John Reeve, my 8x Great Grandfather, was baptised on 17 October 1671 in Hurstpierpoint.  Only his father's name appears in the baptism register.  He married Ann Gardiner (c1675-1727) in 1696.  (They have their own page.)

4. William Reeve was baptised on 8 June 1674 in Hurstpierpoint.  He may have been buried on ?6 December 1745 in Clayton, Sussex.

   William may have married Cordwell Pockny (Cordelia), a widow, on 16 January 1695/6 in Clayton, Sussex.

   As Cordwell Turner she had married Edward George Pockney on 10 November 1691 in Clayton.

   Cordwell was baptised on 26 November 1665 at Keymer, Sussex and was buried on 13 July 1720 at Clayton.

5. Elizabeth Reeve was born on 13 September and baptised on 29 September 1676 in Hurstpierpoint.  She was mentioned in her mother's 1713 will.  Elizabeth may have been buried as a spinster on 12 April 1716.

6. Susannah Reeve was mentioned in her mother's 1713 will.  She married John Miles on 4 June 1699 in Nuthurst, Sussex.  John was of Wivelsfield, Sussex.
