William QUAIT (1756-?)

and Hannah EMERY (c1760-?)

William Quait and Hannah Emery married by licence on 18 August 1784 in Storrington, Sussex.  William was a bachelor.  Their marriage licence was issued by the Archdeaconry of Chichester on 17 August 1784.  It recorded that he was a 28 year old bachelor and miller of Sullington for many years.  She was a 31 years old spinster from Storrington.  Surety for the licence was provided by William himself and Richard Emery a bailiff from Parkham.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

William Quait was baptised on 22 August 1756 in Horsham, Sussex.  He was the son of William Quait and Ann Mills (1733-?).  He was mentioned as William Quait, junior, in the will of Richard Bassell miller of Sullington, dated 1 August 1780, and was left a legacy of 50.

Hannah Emery's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.

William Quait and Hannah Emery had 7 known children:

  1. William Quait was baptised on 15 October 1785 in Sullington.

  2. Richard Quait was baptised on 6 October 1787 in Sullington.

  3. Mary Ann Quait was baptised on 26 November 1790 in Sullington.

  4. Hannah Quait was baptised on 10 January 1792 in Sullington.

  5. Rhoda Quait was baptised on 25 July 1793 in Sullington.

  6. Thomas Quait was baptised on 22 May 1796 in Sullington, and buried there on 29 May 1796 in Sullington.  The burial register noted that he was the son of William and Hannah.

  7. Caroline Quait was baptised on 11 April 1798 in Sullington.
