George QUAIT (c1710-?)

and Ann (?-?)

George Quait and Ann Mills married on 17 May 1738 in Horsham, Sussex.  She was a widow.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

George Quait's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  Might he have been was baptised on 25 January 1692 in Farnham, Surrey, the son of George Quait?  Another George Quait married Elizabeth in about 1711.

Ann's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  She may have been buried as Ann Quait, widow on 12 February 1770 in Horsham.

As Ann Willoughby she may have previously married Edman Mills on 23 May 1731 in Horsham.  He was from Horsham and she from Sullington.

Edman Mills was buried on 21 March 1734/5 in Horsham.  The burial register described him as a householder.  Edman Mills, junior and a labourer, was buried on 4 June 1735 in Horsham.  (I am guessing Edman junior married Ann.)

Edman and Ann had 4 known children:

  1. Mary Mills was baptised on 19 December 1731 in Horsham.  A transcript of the baptism register recorded her parents ad Edman and Elizabeth.

Mary may have married Benjamin Perry on 27 December 1757 in Horsham.  He was a husbandman from Oxted, Surrey.  The witnesses to their marriage were William Quait and Jane Hunt.

  2. Ann Mills was baptised on 22 February 1732/3 in Horsham.  She may have married William Quait in 1752.  (They have their own page.)

  3. Jane Mills was baptised on 7 April 1734 in Horsham.

  4. Edman Mills was baptised on 9 November 1735 in Horsham.

.

George Quait and Ann had 4 known children:

  1. Hannah Quait was baptised on 2 March 1739 in Horsham.

Hannah married Thomas Chart by banns on 24 May 1770 in Horsham.  He was a farmer and she a spinster and they were both of Horsham.  The witnesses to their marriage were George Quait and William Stanford.

Thomas and Hannah had the following children:

    1. Hannah Chart was baptised on 12 May 1771 in Horsham.

    2. Mary Chart was baptised on 22 November 1772 in Horsham.

    3. James Chart was baptised on 5 June 1774 in Horsham.

    4. Thomas Chart was baptised on 17 March 1776 in Horsham.  He died aged 45 years in Southwater and was buried on 28 February 1822 in Horsham.

  2. Sarah Quait was baptised on 11 February 1741 in Horsham.  She may have been buried there on 26 August 1753.  The burial register noted that she was a child.  Another Sarah Quait was baptised in Horsham in July 1753, although if it was her burial I would have thought she would have been described as an infant.

  3. George Quaite was baptised on 10 April 1743 in Horsham.

The banns of marriage were published in Worth in 1763 between George Quait of Oxted, Surrey and Sarah Bishe of Worth.

A George Quait married Martha White by banns on 26 June 1777 in Warnham.  He was a widower and they were both of Warnham.  The witnesses to their marriage were William Charman and William Steer.

On 15 February 1798 in Warnham, G. Quait was a witness to the marriage of William Baker and Susannah Plant.  The other witness was William Honeywood.

George and Martha had the following children:

    1. Charlotte Quait was baptised on 31 March 1779 in Warnham.

    2. George Quait was baptised on 2 February 1781 in Warnham.

    3. Hannah Quait was baptised on 22 April 1783 in Warnham.

  4. John Quait was baptised on 24 September 1746 in Horsham and buried there on 24 May 1753 in Horsham.  The burial register noted that he was a child.

On 20 May 1766 in Horsham, George Quait and Hannah Quait were witnesses to the marriage of Thomas Mills a farmer from Lingfield, Surrey and Jane Coleman, widow.
