Thomas PUTTOCK (1654-?)

and Sarah HERSIE (c1660-?)

 

Thomas Puttock and Sarah Hersie were my 8x Great Grandparents.  They married on 6 October 1681 in Warnham, Sussex.

Thomas Puttock was born on 15 December 1654 in Slinfold, Sussex.  He was the son of 5 324 Richard Puttock.  At one point I had thought that Thomas was baptised on 5 March 1661/2 in Slinfold, the son of Thomas Puttock and Jane Coulstock, but now realise that that Thomas was buried on 10 June 1665.

Sarah Hersie's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  She died after 1697.  Might she have been a daughter of Stephen Hersie and ? Smith, who married on 18 November 1641 in Warnham?  However, at the time of their marriage Stephen was described as the elder and his new wife was a widow.  A Stephen Hersie married Ann Millet on 24 November 1634 in Warnham.

 

Thomas Puttock and Sarah Hersie had 8 known children:

  1. Thomas Puttock was baptised on 13 April 1684 in Rudgwick, Sussex.  As Thomas Putick he may have married Sarah Ansell on 6 May 1707 in Warnham.

  2. Sarah Puttock was baptised on 19 June 1686 in Rudgwick.  She may have married John Butler on 3 April 1711 in Itchingfield, Sussex, at which time he was of Wisborough Green and she of Slinfold.  Or she may have married John Boarer on 8 May 1711 in Rudgwick, when they were both of Slinfold.

  3. Elizabeth Puttock, my 7x Great Grandmother, was baptised on 28 December 1688 in Rudgwick.  She married William Finch in 1710.  (They have their own page.)

  4. John Puttock was baptised on 20 January 1692 in Rudgwick and probably died young.

  5. Jean Puttock was baptised on 29 September 1693 in Rudgwick.

  6. Anne Puttock was baptised on 20 March 1695 in Rudgwick and buried there on 10 June 1696.

  7. John Puttock was baptised on 28 July 1697 in Rudgwick.  He may have married Hannah Chart on 2 May 1723 in Slinfold.  He was then of Warnham and she of Slinfold.

  8. Richard Puttock was baptised on 27 November 1697 in Rudgwick.

Only their father's name was recorded against their baptisms.
