Richard PURVEY (1695-?)

and Ann BORGERY (1696-1731)

Richard Purvey and Ann Borgery married on 18 November 1725 in Slaugham, Sussex.  At the time he was of Thakeham and she of Slaugham.  (They were not my direct ancestors.  Three of Richard's sisters were possibly my ancestors.)

Richard Purvey was baptised on 14 January 1694/5 in Bolney, Sussex.  He was the son of Henry Purvey (1665-1711) and Bridget Sherley (1668-1745).

Ann Borgery was baptised on 19 January 1695/6 in Slaugham and was the daughter of John Borgrey and Ann.  As Ann wife of Richard Purvey she was buried on 31 March 1731 in Slaugham.

Richard Purvey and Ann Borgery had 2 known children:

  1. John Purvey was baptised on 4 April 1727 in Slaugham.  He died aged 90 years in Bolney and was buried on 10 April 1816 in Nuthurst.

John married Mary in about 1750 possibly in or near Nuthurst.

Mary wife of John Purvey was buried on 19 October 1794 in Nuthurst.  Another Mary wife of John Purvey died in Bolney and was buried on 30 November 1798.  Yet another Mary Purvey died in Bolney and was buried on 4 March 1800 in Nuthurst.

John and Mary had the following children:

    1. John Purvey was baptised on 23 June 1751 in Nuthurst.  He may have died aged 76 years and have been buried on 2 October 1825 in Nuthurst.  The burial register noted he was from Bolney.

A John Pervie married Mary Parson on 12 February 1771 in Upper Beeding.

They may have had the following child:

      1. Judith Purvey was baptised on 17 December 1786 in Slaugham.

Judith may have married John Buckman by banns on 16 October 1805 in Hartfield, Sussex.  They were both then said to be of Hartfield.

    2. Ann Purvey may have been part of this family.  She married William Hews by banns on 28 April 1778 in Slaugham.  She was then of Slaugham and he of Nuthurst.  The witnesses to their marriage were John Purvey and George Bassett.

    3. Betty Purvey was baptised on 2 September 1759 in Nuthurst.

    4. Sarah Purvey was baptised on 4 July 1762 in Nuthurst.  She may have died aged 75 years and have been buried on 21 February 1838 in Nuthurst.  The burial register noted Sarah Purvy was from Bolney.

    5. Jenny Purvey was baptised on 4 August 1765 in Nuthurst.  She may have been buried on 3 February 1771 in Nuthurst, however, the burial register described Jenny as an infant.

    6. Martha Purvey was baptised on 2 October 1768 in Nuthurst.

Martha married Thomas Dendy by banns on 6 January 1798 in Itchingfield.  They were both then of Itchingfield.

    8. Richard Purvey was baptised on 14 February 1773 in Nuthurst.

    9. Mary Purvey was baptised on 20 April 1777 in Nuthurst.

Mary may have married Samuel Linfield.  The banns were published in Nuthurst in August 1795.

    10. Jenny Purvey was baptised on 4 April 1779 in Cowfold.  The baptism register noted her parents were from Beeding.
