Thomas PIPER (c1650-1701)

and Joan CARVER (c1660-1738)

Thomas Piper and Joan Carver were my 8x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)  They married on 8 October 1682 in Sutton, Sussex.  At the time he was of Sutton and she of Burton Hammer.  Other entries in the marriage register refer to Burton Hamer House.

Thomas Piper's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  He was most probably buried on 6 November 1701 in Sutton.  Might Thomas have been baptised on 20 June 1633 in Coldwaltham, Sussex, the son of Thomas Piper?

Joan Carver's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  Might she have been the daughter of John Carver and Joane who had children baptised in Sutton in 1660, 1662 and 1667?  Joan Piper was buried on 25 September 1738 in Sutton.

Thomas Piper and Joan Carver had 1 known child:

  1. Elizabeth Piper, my 7x Great Grandmother, was baptised on 30 September 1683 in Sutton.  Both her parents were named in the baptism register.  She married twice.  Firstly to Richard Head in 1702 and then to William Heath in 1720.  (They have their own page.)

Could it have been that Thomas and Joan married late, hence only one child?  Might Joan have been in service at Burton Hammer House?
