My Peryer Ancestors
A 4x Great Grandmother may have been
Hetty Peryer who married
James Goble
in 1786 in Heyshott, Sussex. She was born in Easebourne, Sussex in
1767 and was the daughter of
John Peryer and
Elizabeth Scardfield
who married in 1766. As a widow Henrietta Goble married
George White in 1830 in Haslemere, Surrey.
However, I am not sure about my Peryer connection. My 2x Great
Grandfather, Edmund Goble, was born about
1841 - so far no birth certificate or baptism has been found for him.
His mother was Sarah Baxter. She married John
Restall in 1833 and by 1845 she had settled down with
George Goble, who was the son of James Goble and
Hetty Peryer. At the time of the 1841 census George
was living in Portsmouth and as yet I've not found Sarah in the census.
In 1843 Sarah had a son who she said on his birth certificate was the son of
her husband, John Restall, but when he was baptised he was
her illegitimate son and no father's name was recorded. In 1841
John Restall was living in the workhouse without her, and
he died in 1845. When the 1851 census was recorded, Edmund was
recorded as a Goble and the son of George, as was his brother born in 1843.
So the question is, who was Edmund's father? If it was George
Goble, then I do have Peryer ancestors, but I can't be certain.
