Edward PERYER (c1700-?)

and Ann WAKEFORD (c1700-?)

Edward Payer and Ann Wakeford may have been my 6x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their possible place in my pedigree chart.)  They married by licence on 4 January 1730/1 at the Chichester Palace Chapel, Sussex.  Their marriage licence was issued on the same day by the Deanery of Chichester.  It recorded that he was a bachelor and blacksmith of Heyshott and she was of the parish of St. Peter the Less in Chichester.  Surety for the licence was provided by Edward himself and William Wakeford a victualler of the parish of St. Peter the Great in Chichester.

Edward Peryer's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.

Ann Wakefordís date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  Might she have been the daughter of William Wakeford and Susan Wooldridge (1657-?) who married in 1864 at St. Peter the Great in Chichester?  Or was she baptised on 26 October 1698 in Heyshott, the daughter of John Wakeford and Katherine Drew?

Edward Peryer and Ann Wakeford had 6 known children:

  1. Edward Perrier was baptised on 2 April 1731 in Heyshott and buried there on 22 February 1731/2.

  2. William Perrier was baptised on 11 April 1732 in Heyshott.  He may have died in 1788 and left a will, ref. T 47, which can be obtained from the West Sussex Record Office.

William married Elizabeth Hedger by licence on 11 November 1773 in Heyshott.  The witnesses to their marriage were Mary Cockerell and Sarah Hedger.  Their marriage licence was issued on 6 November 1773 by the Archdeaconry of Chichester.  It recorded that William was a 39 year old bachelor and farmer of Heyshott.  Elizabeth was a 23 year old spinster of Heyshott.  Surety for the licence was provided by William himself and Edward Peryer a blacksmith of Chichester.

Elizabeth may have been born about 1750 and have died aged 75 years, as an Elizabeth Peryer of Petworth was buried on 4 May 1826 in Midhurst.

William and Elizabeth had 2 known children:

    1. William Peryer was baptised on 5 June 1774 in Heyshott.

    2. Elizabeth Peryer was baptised on 1 January 1781 in Heyshott.

  3. Edward Perrier was baptised on 1 October 1736 in Heyshott.  He may have been buried on 3 May 1788 in Heyshott, Sussex.

  4. John Perrier, my possible 5x Great Grandfather, was baptised on 30 December 1737 in Heyshott.  He married 5 117 Elizabeth Scardfield in 1776.  (They have their own page.)

  5. Susanna Peryer was baptised on 13 May 1740 in Heyshott.

Before her marriage she had an illegitimate son:

    1. John Peryer baptised on 6 May 1764 in Heyshott.

As Susan Perrier she married Richard Dawtrey by licence on 12 January 1766 in Heyshott.  The witnesses to their marriage were Richard Pearson and William Perrier.  Their marriage licence was issued on 11 January 1766 by the Archdeaconry of Chichester.  It recorded that he was a bachelor and farmer aged 33 years.  She was a spinster aged 23 years and they were both said to be of Heyshott.

  6. Anne Perryer was baptised on 7 August 1742 in Heyshott and buried there on 9 August 1742.
