Stephen PEIRCE (c1660-1727)

and Jane TURNER (1662-?)

 

Stephen Peirce and Jane Turner may have been my 7x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their possible place in my pedigree chart.)  They married by licence on 20 March 1682/3 in Hamsey, Sussex.

Stephen Peirce's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  He may have been buried on 17 December 1727 in Fletching.  Might he have been baptised on 31 December 1655 in Newick, the son of John Peirce and Elizabeth Eves (?-1679) or on 17 April 1659 in Uckfield, Sussex and have been the son of John Pearce and Mary Pilcher?  Or might he have been the son of Stephen Pierce (1626-1700) and Elizabeth Streatfield (1633-1697) who married in Fletching in 1654?

Jane Turner was baptised on 29 November 1662 in Fletching, Sussex.  She was the daughter of George Turner and Jane.

 

Stephen Peirce and Jane Turner may have had the following children:

  1. Elizabeth Peirse was baptised on 28 February 1683/4 in Newick.  The baptism register noted that her father was Stephen Peirse, junior and her mother's name was Anne.

  2. Anne Peirse was baptised on 1 October 1685 in Newick.

  3. Joseph Pierce was baptised on 9 January 1688/9 in Newick.  The baptism register noted that he was the son of Stephen and Anne.

  4. George Peirce was baptised on 13 July 1690 in Newick and buried there on 1 May 1691.

  5. John Pierce was baptised on 5 January 1691/2 in Newick.  Did he marry Judith Buckwell on 31 August 1714 in Isfield, Sussex?  He was then of Newick and she of Chailey.  Might she have been baptised on 30 April 1693 in Cuckfield and have been the daughter of William Buckwell and Judith Ashfold?

  6. Stephen Peirce may have been part of this family.  He married Mary Langridge in 1719 in Fletching.  They did name a daughter Jane.  (They have their own page.)

  7. Anne Peirce was baptised on 9 August 1696 in Fletching.  Might she have married Richard Box on 5 January 1719/20 in Lindfield?

  8. Katherine Peirce was baptised on 2 June 1700 in Fletching.  Might she have married Benjamin Maskall on 29 September 1724 in Lindfield?
