Robert PAYNE (1635-?)

and Lydia QUITTENDEN (1625-?)

 

Robert Payne and Lydia Quittenden married sometime before or about 1657, possibly in or near East Grinstead, Sussex.

Robert Payne was baptised on 4 October 1635 in East Grinstead.  He was the son of Richard Payne and Susan Wicken.  He died before 1691 (from John Comber's Sussex Genealogies).  I have not found a will for him in The National Archive or Ancestry.co.uk indexes of wills. 

Lidia Quittenden was baptised on 14 August 1625 in East Grinstead.  She was the daughter of John Quittenden and Joane.  I have taken her surname from an entry in John Comber's Sussex Genealogies, Ardingly centre. eliminate

 

Robert Payne and Lydia Quittenden had 5 known children:

  1. Susan Paine was baptised on 21 July 1657 in East Grinstead.  She may have married John Vinall/Vennol on 4 or 6 April 1678 in West Hoathly and then perhaps William Vaux on 10 May 1681 at St. Anne's in Lewes.  But, there was a Susanna Paine who was baptised on 16 April 1654 in East Grinstead.

  2. Elizabeth Payne was baptised on 21 March 1658/9 in East Grinstead.

  3. Margaret Payne was baptised on 23 December 1660 in East Grinstead.

  4. Richard Payne was baptised on 19 September 1663 in East Grinstead.

  5. William Payne was baptised on 12 June 1666 in East Grinstead.
