Henry PAYNE (1625-?)

and Mary HUMPREY (1626-1679)

 

Henry Payne and Mary Humphrey were my 8x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)  They married  on 30 June 1646 in West Hoathly, Sussex.  Mary was then of East Grinstead.

Henry Paine was baptised on 20 March 1624/5 in West Hoathly, Sussex.  He was the son of Henry Paine and Joane Hall. 

Mary Humphrey may have been baptised on 29 October 1626 in East Grinstead, Sussex, the daughter of Peter Humphray and Mary Wickens.  A Mary Payne was buried in West Hoathly on 9 May 1679.

 

Henry Payne and Mary Humphrey had 5 known children:

  1. Robert Payne was baptised on 1 August 1647 in West Hoathly.  He may have been  buried on 16 April 1657 in East Grinstead, as young man.

  2. Anne Payne was baptised on 1 October 1648 in West Hoathly.

  3. Henry Payne was baptised on 7 February 1649/50 in West Hoathly.

  1. Elizabeth Payne, my 7x Great Grandmother, was baptised on 1 December 1656 in West Hoathly.  She married John Hames in 1680.  (They have there own page.)  The baptism register recorded her mother's name as Elizabeth.

  2. Robert Paine was baptised on 17 May 1660 in East Grinstead and it was noted in the baptism register that his parents, Henery and Mary, were from West Hodlye.  He may have died around about 6 October 1738 in East Grinstead.

    Robert married Sarah Faulconer on 16 September 1679 in West Hoathly.

    Sarah was born on 3 January 1659/60 in Balcombe and baptised 10 days later on 13 Janyary 1659/60 at East Grinstead.  She was the daughter of Henry Faulconer (1627-1697) and Elizabeth Dungate (?-1702).  Her father was a yeoman of Newcombe in West Hoathly.

    Robert and Sarah had the following children:

    1. Robert Payne was baptised on 12 October 1680 in East Grinstead.  He was mentioned in his maternal grandfather's will of 1697.  He married Margaret sometime before or about 1714.  Robert and Margaret had the following daughter:

      1. Ann Payne was born on 22 July 1714 in West Hoathly.  She married Jacob Brown on 19 November 1738 in East Grinstead.  He was baptised on 23 November 1712 in Fletching, Sussex and was the illegitimate son of Mary Brown (1691-?).

    2. Elizabeth Payne was baptised on 11 April 1684 in East Grinstead.  She was mentioned in his maternal grandfather's will of 1697.

    3. Mary Payne was baptised on 31 December 1686 in East Grinstead.  She was mentioned in his maternal grandfather's will of 1697.

    4. Sarah Payne was baptised on 26 April 1692 in East Grinstead.  She was mentioned in his maternal grandfather's will of 1697.

    5. William Payne was baptised on 11 February 1695/6 in East Grinstead.  He was mentioned in his maternal grandfather's will of 1697.

    6. Henry Payne was baptised on 28 February 1698/9 in East Grinstead.

    7. Edward Payne was baptised on 18 November 1701 in East Grinstead.

 

An Elizabeth Paine was buried in West Hoathly on 2 October 1696.
