were my 9x Great Grandparents.
to see their place in my pedigree chart.)
They married by licence issued by the Archdeaconry of Lewes on 23 February
1621/2, which stated that Henry was a husbandman of East Grinstead and Joan
a spinster of East Grinstead. Sponsors for the licence were Henry
himself, George Payne a husbandman of East Grinstead and John
Burley a husbandman of Horsted Keynes.
Henry Payne may have been baptised on
18 April 1591 in East Grinstead, the same day as his wife to be.
The names of neither set of parents were recorded in the baptism register.
He is unlikely to have been the son of Robert Payne
(?-1612) and he left a will and did not mention a son named Henry, nor was
he the son of Edward Payne
Johane Halle may have been baptised on 18 April 1591 in East Grinstead.
Might she have been the daughter of Philip Halle and
Elizabeth Villett? They had married in East Grinstead on 14
January 1588/9. Joan may have have been buried in West Hoathly on 7 October 1672 or 26 April
1673. A marriage licence was issued on 29 May 1620 by the Archdeaconry
of Lewes to Richard Saxpes and Joan Hall.
He was a yeoman and she a widow of East Grinstead, therefore, she was not
the one baptised in 1591.
