John PARSONS (1807-1878)

and Mary TOMSETT (1809-1875)

 

John Parsons and Mary Tomsett married on 15 May 1828 in Nuthurst, Sussex.  He was then of Cowfold and she of Nuthurst.  (They were not my direct ancestors.  John was the brother of my possible 4x Great Grandfather, William Parsons.)

John Parsons was baptised on 18 January 1807 in Cowfold, Sussex.  He was the son of William Parsons (1766-1842) and Hannah Trusler (1770-1845).  John died aged 72 years and was buried on 17 December 1878 in Cowfold.

Mary Tomsett was baptised on 27 July 1809 in Woodmancote, Sussex.  She was the daughter of Joseph Tomset and Jane White.  A Mary Parsons died aged 67 years and was buried on 5 May 1875 in Cowfold., therefore, born about 1808.

When the 1841 census was recorded the couple and 5 children were living at Burnt House in Cowfold.  John and Mary were both said to be 30 years old and he was a farm labourer.  The family were living next door to the family of Charles Tulett.

In 1851 the couple and 5 children were living at Ashurst Cottage in Cowfold.  John was then a 44 year old agricultural labourer and Mary was 43.

 

 John Parsons and Mary Tomsett had 7 known children:

  1. William Parsons was baptised on 19 August 1828 in Woodmancote.  He was 10 years old in 1841  In 1851 he was an unmarried 22 year old agricultural labourer and he was living at home with his parents.

  2. Ann Parsons was baptised on 10 June 1832 in Cowfold.  She was 8 years old in 1841.

  3. Henry Parsons was baptised on 5 April 1835 in Cowfold.  He was 6 years old in 1841.

  4. Thomas Parsons was baptised on 14 January 1840 in Cowfold.  He married Mary Lindfield in 1863.  (They have their own page.)

  5. Mary Parsons was baptised on 14 January 1840 in Cowfold.  She was a year old in 1841.  She was an 11 year old scholar in 1851.

  6. George Parsons was baptised on 30 November 1845 in Cowfold.  In 1851 he was 5 years old.

  7. Charles Parsons was baptised on 28 May 1848 in Cowfold.  In 1851 he was 3 years old.
