John PARSONS (1718-1798)

and Ann FOWLE (1721-?)

John Parsons and Ann Fowle may have been my 6x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their possible place in my pedigree chart.)  They married by licence on 25 March 1742 at St. Anne's in Lewes, Sussex.  They were both of Woodmancote.

John Parsons may have been baptised on 10 October 1718 in Hurstpierpoint, Sussex and have been the son of John Parsons and Anne Michell, which I think is quite likely, but another John Parsons was baptised on 14 March 1719 in Cowfold, Sussex, the son of James Parsons and Mary Browne.  A John Parsons was buried on 14 December 1798 in Woodmancote.

Ann Fowle was baptised on 9 May 1721 in Albourne, Sussex.  She was the daughter of Thomas Fowle and Jane Pilfold.

John Parsons and Ann Fowle had 12 known children:

  1. Anne Parsons was baptised on 1 April 1744 in Woodmancote.  The baptism register noted that her parents were from Bramlands.

  2. Jane Parsons may have been part of this family.  She was baptised on 26 January 1745/6 in Woodmancote.  The baptism register recorded that she was the daughter of Goodman Parsons.

Jane married William Gander on 10 October 1774 in Albourne, Sussex.

William was a witness to the marriage of Jane's brother William Parsons in 1791.

  3. Betty Parsons was baptised on 21 February 1747/8 in Woodmancote.  Only her father's name was recorded in the baptism register.

  4. Mary Parsons was baptised on 26 December 1750 in Woodmancote.  Only her father's name was recorded in the baptism register.

  5. Sarah Parsons was baptised on 25 March 1753 in Woodmancote.  Only her father's name was recorded in the baptism register.

  6. Susannah Parsons was baptised on 1 June 1755 in Woodmancote.  The baptism register noted that she was the daughter of John and Ann of Bilsborough.

As Susanna Parsons did she married James Grynyer by banns on 7 August 1774 in Newtimber, Sussex?  She was then a spinster of Newtimber whilst he was a bachelor of Brighton.

  7. Fanny Parsons was baptised on 27 March 1757 in Woodmancote.  Did she marry Thomas Barrol on 20 December 1778 in Upper Beeding, Sussex?

  8. Edmund Parsons was baptised on 12 March 1758 in Woodmancote.

  9. John Parsons was baptised on 15 July 1759 in Woodmancote.

  10. Lydia Parsons was baptised on 29 July 1759 in Woodmancote.

  11. Thomas Parsons was baptised on 12 June 1763 in Woodmancote.

  12. William Parsons, my possible 5x Great Grandfather, was baptised on 11 May 1766 in Woodmancote.  He married Hannah Trusler in 1791.  (They have their own page.)

John Parsons and Ann Bound married by licence on 22 April 1751 at the Palace Chapel in Chichester, Sussex.  Their marriage licence was issued on the same day by the Archdeaconry of Chichester, which recorded that John was a bachelor and husbandman of Albourne, Sussex.  Ann was then a spinster of Boxgrove, Sussex.  Surety for the licence was provided by John himself and Thomas Hill a gent of Boxgrove.
