Edmund PARSONS (1790-1833)

and Harriet SERLE (?-?)

Edmund Parsons and Harriet Serle married by banns on 6 April 1826 in Henfield, Sussex.  He was then a bachelor from Ashurst and she was a spinster of Henfield.  The witnesses to their marriage were James Parsons and Mary Juttens.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

Edmund Parsons was baptised on 27 June 1790 in West Grinstead, Sussex.  He was the son of William Parsons and Ann Newman.  Edmund died aged 43 years and was buried on 31 January 1833 in West Grinstead.

Harriet Serle's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.

Edmund Parsons and Harriet Serle had 2 or 3 known children:

  1. William Parsons was baptised in 1827 in West Grinstead, however, a transcript of the baptism register notes he was the son of Edward and Hannah.  In 1841 he may have been a 14 year old agricultural labourer living at Dialpost in the home of Sarah Brown a 40 year old widow.  Also part of the household was 10 year old James Parsons.

  2. Catherine Parsons was baptised on 28 June 1829 in West Grinstead.

  3. James Parsons was baptised on 6 February 1831 in West Grinstead.

Another Edmund Parsons married Sarah Tidey by banns on 27 December 1824 in Shermanbury, Sussex.  That Edmund was then a bachelor from Cowfold and Sarah a spinster of Shermanbury.  He was most probably baptised on 27 May 1792 in Twineham, Sussex, the son of Thomas Parsons and Frances Hutson.
